Plastic collars over intake rubber

Post by 3potjohn »

I have asked about this in the past so sorry for that. On the carb to cylinder head intake rubbers there is a hard plastic collar which is retained by the jubilee clip. I always find them to be a nuisance and have not had them fitted to my Sport for ages.
I believe they contribute to potential poor sealing. I assume their main purpose is to reduce the chances of the jubilee clip cutting into the rubber.
Should I persevere with them as another bike I have acquired has them?

Never had them. Fitted rubbers in 1979 after one of the multi piece alloy manifolds broke. Have done around 75000 miles since. Rubbers have gone hard, but have never split apart.
Regards, George.

Aluminium egg rings. Cut to size, they make a much better alternative.
