I had minimal trouble setting mine up, and starting is not a problem (a very lazy kick when warm). However, I do have Tritsch transducers & Mikuni carburetors...

THE SINGLE most frustrating bit about the NLM pick up (on my one at least) is that the spigot that locates/ centralises the back plate (circle behind rotor in picture above) is made from 1" tube - 25.4mm diameter. The recess for the cam seal where it locates is 26mm diameter. When you then consider you need very close clearances between rotor and pick up (0.1mm or less), setting up becomes incredibly fraught. I do have a reliable idle now though.
