Clutch Cable Issues

Post by mgill »

Just installed a new clutch cable (from NLM) getting the bike ready for a track day tomorrow.
I can not get the proper 15mm between clutch arm and the case. 7mm and I have no slack at the bar lever, turning the screw in only actuates the clutch (ie. slip)
I THINK THE NEW CABLE IS TOO SHORT!!!. The old cable is garbage and not an option.
ANY IDEAS???
I'll still have my CB350 racer for tomorrow, but was hoping to give the Morini some track time....

Oh surprise, another faulty Venhill cable!

Somebody has seriously let quality control slip. I've had at least three faulty Venhill clutch cables from NLM (too long, too short, nipple pulled off!!!) and two throttle cables. NLM took the cables back no problem, but it's the inconvenience. These days I make my own cables.

To solve your problem....

Carefull pull off the ferrule at the crankcase end. Revove a section of plastic covering and shorten the steel spiral. You really need a cutting wheel in a Dremel type tool, but you can just get away with a good set of snips. Try not to damage the liner, cut that back with a knife. Replace the ferrule (can be tricky).
