What`s your other bike ?
What`s your other bike ?
Just picked up a 2013 Aprilia Shiver. In some ways its a bit like a 3 1/2. Let me explain.
I`ve come from many Ducati`s of old, Guzzi`s, and now on my 6th Aprilia. 2 bikes ago was a 2019 v4 Tuono. What a rocketship.
Strangely enough not as enjoyable as I thought it would be. 1, we don`t have nice smooth county flowing roads like France/Spain/Italy. If I lived there I would probably still own the bike. But our country roads induce chiropractic bookings.
So enter the Shiver. Good firm handling, relatively light, power that is exciting enough but begs to be wound out. Wonderful exhaust music from the db Akras. No big fairing, just head in the clean air. Not the fastest bike in the woods, but with technique a quick enough ride.
So when my 3 1/2 arrives, it will be a tough decision which one to wheel out the shed.
So what`s yours ?
Cheers, Merry Chrissy.

I had a 750 Shiver to replace a Voxan 1000 Roadster that ate its big ends. A thoroughly competent machine but I found it a bit lacking in charisma so I swapped it for a Morini Corsaro 1200. Amazing bike but "too fast for rider" so I changed to an ER6n for a while. With the benefit of hindsight I should have bought one rather than the Voxan but I didn't really think they would be built.
Current stable apart from the wee vee is a 1957 Gilera 175, a 1984 Honda CB250RS (acquired last year mainly for the 'Brrrm button') and a 2019 Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen. The Husky is delightful machine. A bit quicker than a Morini 350 but with better brakes and modern electrics. No heavier than a Strada. Not quite the pin sharp handling of a Morini but it's very easy to hustle along. Short wheelbase so gets a bit nervous > 90 mph but my days of high speeds ended with the Corsaro.
Horses for courses. A brisk canter of any distance - Husky. A bimble on back roads not far from base - Gilera. A mixed ride or VMCC run when my hip isn't playing up - Morini. Longer VMCC run when it is - Honda.

I have a 1969 BSA B25 Starfire which I bought to make sure my shed floor was never free from oil slicks. One of these days I will get the timing side crankcase oiltight but I am not holding my breath.
It's a great ride but you wouldn't want to do more than an hours ride or the vibes will make your eyeballs counterrotate.

Stop it ! Get those parsnips peeled.
I managed 45 mins in the garage early today… but I think I got away with it.

I used to have a C15 back in 1975. You could bowl along the backroad via Ashton Keynes and Siddington to Peter Hammonds and get a kickstart return spring. Then stop in a pub for a pint and a pork pie.

So, you like Guzzi`s ?
I`ve had v50 Monza, 850 Le mans, Daytona RS 1000, V10 Centauro, 650 NTX, 1000 Quota.
If I ever wanted a cruiser, I wouldnt mind the old automatic one.

You could say that. I've also had a V50 III, 1000 Le Mans, Centauro, 1000SP, G5, 850-Ts, V700 and more I'm likely forgetting. I've owned six of the "automatic ones" - three complete and three parts bikes.

76 Strada for VMCC/Morini SW section meets & camping weekends
Yam TTR250 for greenlanes & with road tyres for commuting & winter
Suzi SV 650 with high bar conversion for touring
Bros 650 for fun - just like a little more modern 3 1/2!
