I have just started to restore a 2C but it had many parts missing including the footrests. I see you had some problems with these which you have now corrected. I have been able to get a replacement for the LHS but no RHS footrest is available from NLM. I wondered if you had any parts I could buy ?
thanks,
Dave.

Hello Buzby, good luck with your search. I was lucky to be able to get some parts from another member as mine came with some 'cut and shut' footrests intended to be 'rearsets' by a PO. The LHS also had a monstrous great sidestand welded on by a flock of pigeons.
If they are of any use, you are welcome to them, otherwise I'd look on ebay, especially Italy and Spain, and also milanuncios, a Spanish site similar to ebay. Here's an example for 250cc Morinis: https://www.milanuncios.com/motos-de-se ... 50&cch=250

Thanks for the link, I've never seen that site before. I do have a footrest from another model Morini which will need some welding and filing before it is suitable, I just wondered if you had a spare in good condition that you didn't need?
cheers,
Dave.

After what seems an age, I got back to the 2C. Fuel tank is well cured now, so I tested for leaks - no problem. Refitted and partially filled, connected up and started the engine (without 'The Thing' - see previous posts). Starts really easily and after a bit of fiddling with the carbs runs well and very smoothly. Tick over once warm is nice and steady. I just have a little wiring problem to solve now (I think the left hand control is goosed), but if need be I'll run on permanent lights and handsignals until I can sort it (with 2 350s in the stable, plus others, none get enough exercise!) Just need an Excalibur now...

Hmm. I probably have a left hand switch unit in the shed somewhere - but dare I let it go in case I ever need it for the 2C/375?

"Unobtainium" prices.

For the switch if you prefer to have functional lights then you could adapt any switch-gear from a modern bike.

I think the original wire and contact rating is too small for the current of the 6V system
and it's perhaps marginal for the 12V system, that's my opinion, so I use relays for the head light.

If you didn't know you can update to 12V by changing the regulator/battery/bulbs and horn, this may be of interest to new 250-2C owners
"Unobtainium" prices.
may be but
Try NLM - I got a stainless rear 125/250T mudguard for 18 pounds, collected - I see this guy wants 63 pounds plus postage for a painted mild steel one, don't tell Stuart.

My 2C with 375 engine has been running a 12v system since 1982 by just using a 350 reg/rec (plus bulbs, horn and flasher relay) . No problem with the switch or cables using a 35/35 H4 bulb in a Cibie headlight - but I confess I don't ride the Morini much at night.

Parts prices from Italian sellers are very variable. I've found some very reasonable parts (and fair carriage cost) for my 57 Gilera 175 (like a clutch) but other sellers are asking silly money for rusty old tat. Gigs are usually not so greedy. Looking at other Ebay listings for original units for say Moto Guzzi for example 50 quid seems to be about the going rate. It depends how original you want the bike to be and how much work wiring up a completely different switch. The advertised one looks to be complete with all the sub harness. Having said that, I shall be finding my spare one out and putting it somewhere safe and dry when I find it ;)

I'm not worried about 'originality' and before spending too much I'd prefer to get it running on the road to see how it is. If I like it I can then decide on the route to take. I think it's pretty wise to set precious spares aside - just in case.

So, are Morini spares about to hit Ducati highs? :)
