250 2C

I have seen a 250 2c in good condition. I can't find
mich info about them. Does anyone know if they are good machines? I'm a returning biker after 25 years. How much are they worth? Are they reliable for 40 mile round trip to work in the summer?
It's a Morini or a Royal Enfield Electra X. any info/opinions/advice welcome.

I had one,it was good fun,reliable and nimble.

However I prefer my 350 which has better suspension,more power and is suitable for longer rides.

There's a thread lower down this page, someone asking a similar question . . . "250 2C Wot are they like?" . . The reveiw in Bike magazine Bambino Vee Twin is a pretty fair assessment, there's usually a copy on ebay, it's the one with the pale blue cover and a praying mantis looking futuristic Honda on the cover . .

Thanks for the replies. I'm still very tempted by the 250 but am aware that I really want a 350 but can't afford one, they're nearly 3 grand at NLMC. I'm a bit worried about parts and also the size of the 250. I'm also tempted by an Enfield 500. Choice is tough!

Think of the money as an investment, not an outlay!

You'll find a Morini and an Enfield poles apart in character. I've only ridden the 350 versions of Morini and Bullet, but the Morini is a sharp, eager, agile thing, while the Enfield is a sloppy, relaxed thumper. I'm sure that, provided the electrical system is OK, you'll find a Morini better for a daily commute.

Thanks Mark. In my heart I know you are right. The Bullet is £600 cheaper though and a bigger bike giving more presence on the road. I know that side by side and money no object I'd go for thr Morini. I've sen 2. One restored for £2250 and one unrestored for £1875. I think it may need it's belts changing. I think the more expensive one is better value. I can't make my mind up!

4 months have gone by and I still haven't bought my long awaited Morini. I am back on the trail now. The 2 bikes I was looking at are still available and one has come down £200 to £1675 on eBay. The other is at NLMC (red) and they also have a rather nice looking black one. I have heard conflicting opinions on the bikes and the dealer. Does £2275 seem reasonable for bikes from the early 80s?

I also had a Kanguro X3 , you sit high up so you need to be quiet tall and the gearing is low but they are cheaper than other Morinis.

I am quite tempted by the brown 250 on eBay. I tend to prefer original bikes in good condition to restored ones, though the black one at NLMC looks nice. Does £1675 sound reasonable. It had new belts 2 years ago, will they need doing again now even if it hasn't done many miles? How much does it cost to have them done? It starts second kick, is this normal?

Does anyone know where I can see other 250s for sale so I can compare prices? I can't afford to pay over the odds I case I need to sell again. I'm finding myself constantly looking at the black one in NLMC and the bronze one on eBay. I'm going to try to get the review from Bike magazine.

Concerning your thoughts of a 250.
It is true on the face of it that NLM prices are higher than those seen in the private classified however there are
many on this forum who have purchased what appears to have been a bargin only to spend considerably more after
putting right the numerous faults.

Does anyone know what sort of real world fuel economy I could expect from a 250? I am not a speed freak but I do use twisty B roads.
