125 H being given a little TLC.
125 H being given a little TLC.
It's here and it's a little wire wheeled gem, bit like a midget gum! Only tastier.
There seems to be a weeping Head gasket, swing arm has play, starts first kick, all garments are off in some way and the gear is on the wrong side. Expletive! Good job I'm foot dexterous, or was I just dreaming that.
I seem to remember my old Enfield had it on the wrong side.
It was sunny this morning so I got them out and played with them, here is a photo.
Perhaps it should stay Red? Perhaps Green, Ninja Green or maybe red and silver.

The nights are drawing in, the 5th of November is close, the windows are rattling, the wheels will be coming off, let the fettling begin.
Not quite as dramatic as it seems, itching to get started now, as my Grandson is nearing double figures.
Who would want a MM to learn on?

Re: 125 H being given a little TLC.
So I dropped the oil yesterday, OOOOHHHHH Myyyyyyy G**********d.
Cannot remember ever having seen oil like this before, it is the colour of mud, a light brown with the consistency of thick milk. Reading for likenesses on the net it may possibly have water in it.
Plenty of compression, but I concerned if it was water ingress then where did it come from and will it have harmed the motor?
I have refilled with fresh oil and have turned it over by hand to try to get it into all areas then I'll drop it again and see what comes out.
It may mean a foray into the internals to see what's going on?

Sounds like condensation, motor as probably never been given the chance to get
properly up to temp for long enough to evaperat it off.

Re: 125 H being given a little TLC.
I had similar oil come out of a bike I recommissioned for someone recently. The heads had water sitting in them too which corroded the valve gear. It was just condensation from sitting in a shed that saw large temperature swings.

Will check these things and continue with the rebuild just a bit of a shock.EVguru wrote:I had similar oil come out of a bike I recommissioned for someone recently. Re: 125 H being given a little TLC.
Ordered a Dip Stick and Cam Belt from NLM yesterday they rang me back to discuss an issue at 15:00.
It arrived, even with the Christmas post, this morning. Thanks Robert.
The Dip Stick is a perfect fit no need to bend it as we thought, it must follow the 3 1/2 route through.

Re: 125 H being given a little TLC.
I have the bike stripped now and a wanting to fit the new cam belt from NLM. Is the puller the same as all other Morini Twins?
Do we get the from NLM or is there a source within the club?
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi George, glad to hear you're still projecting! I'm sure the puller is the same one. NLM of course do them but I don't think there is a 'club' source? Could be wrong there too. It's a fairly standard puller at approx 27mm x 1mm (or even 1.25mm needs to be checked) and can be had from some scooter shops etc. Get a decent quality one of course!
What happened re the sludgy brown oil? I imagine a good run to get it really hot then drain again is the only option other than stripping the engine. Particularly as the top end is mist lubricated rather than pumped up there, it would take a fair while for it to wash itself clean inside.

Hi Steve
Well that's interesting about the sludge. I have had the clutch side cover off and found a thick muddy substance in the bottom of the casing.
I've cleaned it out, don't really want to split the crankcase, but if I must then I'll do it. I think I'll put it all back together once I've done the frame etc and change the oil again, I've done it 3 times now, but never under load, just ticking over really as I don't want to damage the little beauty. Thanks for the interest.
Once this 125 is done I'll have a go at the Camel as it seems no one is interested in it.
I bought a Flywheel remover from NLM about a 1/2 hour ago, £14 approx.

Re: 125 H being given a little TLC.
Hi George, once the engine/bike is ridden any distance the cases will all get warm enough to clean out the worst of it. Just ticking it over won't really clear much of it off-in my opinion anyway.
Surprised to hear you had no interest in the Camel after all the refinishing you did on it? Maybe advertise it again now that spring is on it's way?
