Beautiful! Mine probably looked like that back in 1983. Do you know the colour-code or name of the gold on the wheels?
Cheers,
Dom

<FOUND> - lower post in this group got me directed to Soren's
very helpful website & it is RAL 1036.
I am also interested in the color code (paint or powder)
for the wheels. the bronze gold or gold . . . . . .
thanks,

Update...

Engine rebuilt - just need to finish a few small bits. Wife been away so Kitchen counter was a handy bench... Sssshhhhhh (All new bearings, reground crank and main plain bearing).

Need to rebuild the calipers.

Starter motor to service (not important)

Tank to fit.

I was thinking of transplanting the engine into my '79 Sport to run it in whilst I finish the rebuild.

Mike.

I decided to put the engine in the other Sport frame. This is proving interesting in lots of ways. Old engine out, new engine in. Exhaust - NLM 2-1 looks nice, but does not line up. The stress it must put on the cylinder heads is amazing. So Plan B use the existing K1 exhaust, a bit ropey but looks intact. Problem 2 - hands up who knew there were two types of exhaust nuts? Yep, the old Sport and the K1 nuts are not interchangeable... There is a step in the earlier ones and they do not fit on the exhaust pipes! Neither do the half rings! Dug out the K1 nuts and half rings and lo and behold all fits with extreme ease. Only problem is the Artesiani (?) rearsets means the brake lever stops against the leg guard. After getting this far, not a great problem.

Spark plugs to fit, nuts to tighten and nearly a goer for the K1 engine (and the old Sport). I do have a 5 wire alternator and no white wires to the transducer so hoping they are just earths and everything will work.... what can possibly go wrong? Luckily the pickups are both red and the transducers the same... yep, sorry, no thread on which works with which...

Better chuck a bit of 10/40 in too (another thread topic started...).

Next stop, engine running... and a Sport on the road...

Engine runs!

Using original pickup, but wouldn't start. Changed stator, fresh fuel and away she went!

I'll run it in the donor, whilst I wait for the brakes for the K1.

Another 1.609kilometerstone passed...

So, timing and carbs adjusted. Test ride done. Now have a small oil leak to investigate. Forgotten what a pleasure a 31/2 Sport is to ride. Also needs fine tuning. All gears select, which is a bonus as I removed the selector thingy.

Starter motor installed, not tested as mule has no wiring etc for a motor.. and anyway it starts first kick.

Calipers going on to K1. Need brake pipes and exhaust. I think a nice, new stainless system. The original pipes and silencers are on the mule.

Nearly there.

Just need to decide which one to keep. The mule's engine is in bits as it had 1/4" end float on the camshaft and output shaft! I'll have the crank refurbished and change all of the bearings. Think the gearbox bushes need investigating, too. Another winter in the garage!

Venhill have turned around the new brake pipes within a week of sending them! I sent the old ones to them with my specification for colour and a list of Banjo bolts and copper washers. Due tomorrow. Get them on and then just need to finish off running in the engine in the Mule then swap time. MoT and the hard part, dealing with the people at Swansea... :)

I do like riding the Sport. In some ways I prefer it to the 501. A much smoother engine, and the performance is not lacking.

Onwards and upwards. Attention will then turn back to the Mule engine rebuild.

Mike.

Looking good then. That mustard bottle, is it to catch mayonnaise from the breather? Surely you need a Hellman's jar?

Looking good, but MOT? Whats that? Your bike looks 1978ish? so shouldn't need one. DVLA form V112 applies, along with the free road tax.
It is good being on a Morini again I must say.
Regards, George.

Steve,

Just trying out something to catch any oil, as it goes over the disc otherwise, with slippery consequences. At the moment it is cutting the mustard...

Geroge, the bike is 1982/3 so needs an MoT. Now to do battlewith the DVLA...

Mike.
