moto Amore/Moto Hub

Post by Painter »

hi All
I have had to finally concede defeat after 40 years of working on my own bikes my recent purchase and current GP got the better of me and I was unable to fix the tick over problem, the bike had been taken to various other specialists before my ownership in order to fix this very elusive and baffling issue, no one had succeeded. I had a chat with Ben at Moto Hub was Moto Amore and he said with factory support they where confident of sorting it. his exact comments where if we cant no one can, its only a motorcycle, given that it had been to three other specialists I was not overly, confident but when in a hole etc.

I trailered it down to Stoke on Trent to there new Set up and very impressive it is too, like a kids toy shop stuffed with bikes and equipment, well ordered and clean, Ben and his partner Sam a couple of lively 30 somethings both racers and TT riders, came out for a look, they love these GP's both are off firing questions and extolling the virtues of the bike, its a supermoto mascaraing as an adventure bike, great enthusiasm I knew I had brought it to the right place.

I waited a few weeks and had no updated they where busy, then magic 3 weeks in, a text with a video of the bike on the bench ticking over, Ben had been in consultation with Massimo at the factory in Milan there chef fixer, he had suggested the cam sensor. I had myself looked at this and cleaned it, Ben had swapped it for another so how could it be, Massimo said the pickup gear on the end of the cam must be spotless and polished , so off again and it worked.
For all 1200 owners experiencing, stalling issues etc this could be your issue, not just mapping.
I opted for a remap, as I had decatted it and fitted a GPR straight through exhaust and big oil cooler. they put it on the dyno, where it made 127.5hp at the back wheel, which is I believe remarkable for a bike rated at 118 at the crank, the boys where jumping such energy.
I would heartily recommend Moto HUB as without there help I would not have this bike back and be enjoying it, so thanks to BEN and SAM.

SO to finish I have had it back for three weeks and about 600 miles, it runs super smooth and is fast and very punchy, hard to resist not opening the throttle and enjoy the snarl it makes, best motorcycle I have owned and suits my riding style perfectly I am 59 so still like to ride fast but not a racer, and enjoy spirited riding without all the aids of modern bikes, the GP is such a stripped down back to basics machine.
The cushdrive rubbers need replacing they all do, I have bought some super tough drag bike Suzuki 1200 Bandit ones, chain sprockets and a set of tyres and that will be me sorted, see you out there.

Another happy Morini 1200 owner. They are very good road bikes.

After my service at Amore last year bike is running well. Whilst there, borrowed a Corsaro ZT. What an engine. More power than a Scrambler, pulls like a train. Handling is sublime.

Agree with the enthusiasm shown by Ben. Need more converts. For the short of leg the Milano is perfect. Love my Milano. Loved my Scrambler and my Corsaro.

See my Scrambler for sale advert... :)

Yes role on the next 20 k , I will be keeping this bike, as it’s not worth a great deal and very hard to think of something that
Makes me smile so much.
The only issue I have is the fuel consumption which is very heavy, last weeks ride to Barmouth, on off throttle fast riding I got about 120 miles before the fuel light came on when it filled it at about 135 it took nearly 20 lts, Sam at Moto Hub, had disconnected the lambda sensor he suggested that for longer motor way rides reconnecting it for better fuel consumption.
I will fill the tank to the brim and get a more accurate fuel mileage this week on a motorway run with the lambda connected.
My old GP never better high thirties, but it’s worth it for the joy of the machine, has anyone else got any fuel figures to compare, perhaps that’s the price to pay for 127hp at the back wheel .

Hi
My GP was mapped by BSD and gives 117 bhp at the rear wheel. I typically get 40 mpg from it, although noticeably lower with lots of in town riding.

I'm on over 40,000 miles so will be thinking of an expensive service soon

I've thought about replacing it, but I just can't find anything that ticks all the boxes the way this does, so it's staying. It's not like new bikes are problem free either, as my KTM 790 Adventure owning friend will testify.

I might start travelling with a spare reg/rec though, as I'm about to get my 4th one.

Hi redS
This bike I am riding now had a remap at BSD in 2013, but engine running faults etc meant trying out the boys at Motohub, I think 117 hp at the back wheel is very good, I think mine must have corsaro heads to get 127, certainly does not make any sense, and quite frankly I don’t care, 100 hp is enough these days, I am getting slower and my bike is getting faster...
Just checked my fuel consumption on a trip down to Ludlow, mostly legal limit fairly steady throttle, I got 44, rtn 43mpg, so reasonably happy, I think motorway steady riding could push it up to high forties.
Agree with you what else is there that comes close, have to say that the new parallel twin Morini adventure bike leaves me cold.
Come on Morini make a smaller Vee 850-950 adventure bike.
Best wishes

Hi Painter.
Those symptoms are exactly what i have experienced with my GPR 2017.
Horrendous at times and just damn dangerous.
I took mine to Ben before he moved to Stoke, but it made little or no difference
and in the end i only think he reset the dash to remove the spanner icon.
I did find a major fault as some previous owner had tried to repair the corroded wiring
from the reg/rec plug that sits just above the exhaust. All melted and bunged into a 9 pin plug.
I cut it all off and reconnected using solder and bullet crimps. Still no cure.
Swapped out all the relays as the starter motor pump one was faulty. Still no cure.
Found a couple of earths from very poor crimping on the loom. Still no cure.
Fitted a new lambda 02 sensor. Still no cure.
Fitted a 'Rapid bike' basic mapping kit to fool the Lambda 02 sensor and adjust trim. Still no full cure,
but it has improved the stalling issue quite a lot.
Like All GPs this bike has so much potential if it ran correctly.
Interesting read about the cam sensor, but mine is a 2017 with around 8,000 on the clock.
Was it an expensive cure via 'Moto Hub'?
TBH, i'm fed up at throwing new parts at it and scratching my head.
No one will touch it and some have never heard of the make or model LOL.

hi
I feel your pain, is it stalling and not ticking over, does it die when you close the throttle.
where are you based, its not that difficult a job to take the front exhaust cam off and polish the cam/crank position wheel.
Motohub, did a remap after I had the cat removed, the bike has now done 3500 miles since May without any problems, I stay on top of things, replaced all fuel tubing etc for e10 fuel.
it was worth going to them because they had access to the factory and I was all out of ideas and frankly desperate, give Ben a ring.
I f you are local i might be able to help.
cheers

hi
Can you send me a video of your running issues, I might be able to tell if its the same as I had experienced this is such a difficult area and impossible to get help from any other sources.

Hi.
Before I fitted the 'Rapid bike' it always seemed like
it was a fuel issue. It would just stop on tick over or
really catch you out when giving it the beans.
It has never run smooth and is always lumpy.
At 3500 revs and any gear is challenging a bit like
only one pot is running.
Not sure what the previous owner history is?
He states it's been remapped and decatted and 02 bypassed via Ben.
Ben suggests it's only been remapped?
I'm in sunny Blackburn Lancs.

Yes will do.
I can do two, one with the 'rapid bike' and one without.
cheers.
Og's.
p.s. I see you've got the original MM hand guards fitted.
They're as rare as rocking horse sh@t.

I have a Benelli Tre899k and they have many issues the one that effect tickover is steppermotor sticking which gives an irregular tickover and stopping. Looking at the morini stepper it doesn’t look easy to strip so probably squirt carb/egr cleaner up it. They look similar to a Ducati stepper. The Benelli one can be slit from its housing.

hi
my issue was not stepper motor, this was exhaustively researched and sent us in a wrong direction, but it can effect others and irregular ticker issues, unstable tick over etc, which I have experienced, in the past.
cheers

Hi
It seems that I am gonna have to let the pro's deal with it.
I'm not that knowledgeable about the GP.
Even the Italians struggle on their forum regarding running issues. Don't even get me going on the lack of a fuel gauge. What were they thinking?
I'm sure it's fixable, but the cost could be a tad eye watering.
We shall see.
