Engine warning light
Engine warning light
On my way back from WSBK at Dinington Pk on Sunday my GP showed the orange engine warning light 20min into the trip on the M1. I slowed and pulled into the first services and let the bike cool whilst I had a coffe. Re started after 1/2hr with no light and was OK for 5 min. This time I ignored it and rode for 1hr untill stoping for fuel. On re starting the light was off and stayed off ...
Is this typical Italin electrics or should I do something about it?
I'm too far from 3X to pop in for it to me checked and NlM are 3 hrs or more away

Re: Engine warning light
As you say sounds like Italian electrics ,as long as its got oil and water in it ,it will be ok , i'd get it checked if it keeps coming on .
Re: Engine warning light
yep - agree. if its got fluids and isnt making any odd sounds its OK. If the light persists then ill have to get to NLM to get it on the diagnostics.
Is it worth picking up the dash thats on eBay from 3X - is the "brain" for the GP in the dash?

Re: Engine warning light
Do you have heated grips fitted..if not activating the switch for them throws up an engine management light which is easily cleared by turning the switch off... ( easy to accidentally flick it while using the Headlight flash...)
Re: Engine warning light
Yes ive got the heated grips fitted ... which surprisingly work ... so this shouldnt be it.
Ill see what happens the next few times I take the GP out for a run.

Re: Engine warning light
Engine warning light on all the time now ....
Rode the GP to BSB Sneterton at weekend and the engine warning light comes on after 10min each time after the bike is started/re-started.
So this is startign to realy worry/piss me off ...
how to I find out hat the warning light is for? ... is it possible to read the fault codes to narrow it down? Or is it a case of getting 3X to come and collect the bike and fit a new dash unit?

Re: Engine warning light
Nfitz,
It happened to me a few times. I have the diagnostics tool so I can connect to the ecu and see what is going on but the problem is that when you turn ignition off and then on to read the codes, the light comes off and nothing is detected nor saved in memory so I have no idea of what it was about.
Regards

Re: Engine warning light
I called 3X and they confirmed there is no way to read the fault codes in the same way as on the Corsaro. A Ducati data capture/system is needed.
So I suppose I need to get the GP booked in at the local Ducati dealer .... Unless this is pointless because the fault codes are not stored on the GP?.. let me know how you fixed yours or did it just go away?
By the way - 3X say the clocks/display are the same as the Ducati Hypermotard.

Hello Nfitz.
I have the Vehicle diagnostic system from TechnoResearch. It works fine, resets TPS, clears engine light, does diagnostics and so on.
Morinis use the same Marelli IAW5 ecu as the Ducati and many other brands even for cars so it is quite easy to get a tool for diagnosing the codes. As far as I know, it all works the same as the Corsaro BUT the display: you can not clear the service light without the tool in the GP unlike the Corsaro.
Yes, maybe the display is the same but the point with Marelli is communication protocol. They both use CAN bus but that does not necesarily mean that you can fit a Hypermotard dash and work with the Morini ECU. I´d be more interested in a 9 1/2 or Corsaro display, which personally, I find much more attactive and by the way, with MUCH more information.

Re: Engine warning light
I don't understand comments on dash display I think it is one of the best displays I have seen far better than the speed triple I have just sold. I also own morini scrambler with what I think is a 9 1/2.Dash. the only thing different is the scramler display contrast can be altered which the granpasso doesn't need because the display is so clear even in bright sunlight.
I dont think the Ducati tool will talk to the morini my local Ducati specialist also sold morini's and they told me that although it looks the same they won't work
I would just get three cross to sort it. Were do you live?

Re: Engine warning light
please clarify - Sorry but i am confused.
If I take the GP into a ducati dealership (nearest to me that will have the kit is also Apprilia and MotoGuzzi and used to be Benelli and Moto Morini) will they be able to read the fault codes, clear/reset the engine warnign light and re-set the TPS without is costing me an arm and a leg?
If its going to be loads of dosh ... am I not better getting the bike down to 3X (600mile round trip) and getting them to fix it and if necessary gettign a spare dash off them at the same time?

Re: Engine warning light
I assume you mean moto strada? When I spoke to them I got the feeling they are not morini fans the diagnostic tool will do all them makes if they have the correct leads but it shouldn't cost you anything just to find out if they can. I am travelling to France tomorrow or I would have plugged the Motorcycle centre orrells navigator in to see if if they had the right leads which I Dont think they have. When I get back from france I'm going to AGM if you are there we can talk.
Re: Engine warning light
Yes - MotoStrada. Bought my Corsaro vrom them 7yers back whn they were trying to get out of MM. And have bought many bikes from them and the off shoot Auto65 over the years.
But they are nto going to look at a GP for free! I am away over the long weekend and then wil give jason a cal at MotoStrada and see what they will charge o see if their diagnostic kit wll hook-up to the GP.
I traded my Corsaro in for a Benelli 1130 Tornado form Motorcycel Centre at Orrel ....
If I get no joy from MotoStrada ... I would greatly apreciate any assistance you could offer as the damn warnign light is anoying me no end (may have to tape over it)...
Ive been out on it again several times this week and sometimes it stays off for 5 min sometimes for 20 and sometimes it even goes of when riding to come back on ... I think is could be linked to the cutting out when i close the trottle quickly coming into junctions .. TPS?
