Tyres for a Dart

Post by corsaro chris »

Hi all;

Any suggestions or recomendations for a new set of rubber for a Dart?

I don't go that quickly any more, but do enjoy throwing the bike around corners, and you never know, might even get it to Cadwell one of these days... :lol:

On the "morinitreffen" in Germany someone told me that the Bridgestone BT45 is now available for the Dart 16" frontwheel
The best choise IMHO.

Alternative:
I ordered the Heidenau's in Germany

The Dart used to have a bit of a reputation for standing up under braking. A characteristic shared with the Ducati Paso, which also had a 16" front wheel.

When the 110/90-16 was unavailable, people fitted a 100/90 instead and this seemed to cure the tendancy. The Freccia from which the Dart was derived used a 100/80 front and a 110/80 rear (later versions used the same 130/70 rear as the Dart).

It's quite an easy job to fit a Cagiva Mito front wheel; 2.75" by 17" rather than the original 2.5" by 16" giving you a much wider range of rubber to chose from. Then you could even fit Bridgestone 090s, which are track day tyres for Japanese 400's. 110/70-17 and 140/70-17 would work I think.

They're very grippy and good in the wet, the relatively low power and weight of the Dart should still mean good life. I have a set on my Gilera CX.

Need new tyres for my Drat.

(You'll have to copy and paste this as the site only does a bit of the link... sorry.

I have 110/80x16 and 130/70x17 at present but will stick with Bridgestone recommended. Apart from that there appears to be a lack of choice now. Avon do Road Runners, but can find little else. I like Michelin tyres but they do not appear to do anything suitable.

Maybe the Mito 17" front is the way to go. A project for the winter. Wonder if the later USD forks will fit?

Mike.
