Yes, rather noisy. The aim is to make it street-legal. So the tires will have to be replaced as these are very old. And the exhaust system will be replaced/modified. at the moment it is a Valentini two in one. Then have the bike checked by the RDW for dutch plates.

The engine starts but not easily, all electrics work.

The vehicle test contains a decibel test? I wish it was done over here. The MoT tester just has to be reasonably satisfied the noise is within limits. A deaf tester must do all the Hardly Ablesons!

As the regulations aren't retrospectively applied, it would be a nightmare for the tester. Bad enough them knowing if indicators are a necessity instead of far superior hand signals!

well, I'm not sure. however I've to look into it. at least the bike must comply with the noise-regulation at the time of first admission. but I do not know what the admitted noiselevel in the '80 is. and the valentini has a healthy roar.

motorcycle generated noise has been getting more and more political attention.

Yes, and that creates huge problems for our continued use of motorcycles.

The problem with most noise is caused by the eejits who think aftermarket pipes and bouncing off rev limiters in urban areas is cool.

what are "eejits"

I plead guilty to riding a BSA twin with megatons fitted. ten miles from home my wife would start the tea-kettle. but that was 30 odd years ago. nowadays I stick to the factory supplied exhaust as: ( in no specific order)
1. I'm riding with earplugs.
2. the noise doesn't add to the experience (anymore)
3. I don't like the Harley-group impersonating a DC3 airdrop squadron

however, there's a guy with a big single riding the local bypass at 4 oçlock on a saturdaynight (friday or sunday) which makes in my opinion a very sweet sound. probably on his way to his girlfriend, always full blast, very enjoyable.

Who are eejits!

I am so conflicted on noise. Love it, but hate it when 'eejits' are bouncing valves along the coast road at night! Particularly horrible in a National Park!

My fear is legislation leading to bans on certain roads as has happened in, I think, Germany.

Some roads in Germany (Eiffel) have already been closed
If you are controlled, checked by the police and you have a non-standard (eingetragen) exhaust, you can leave your bike and collect it later by trailer.
In Austria some roads are closed for specific types of motorcycles due to noise emmissions.

Ahem. A former member of the Institute of Acoustics writes.

What noise, annoys an oyster?

Noise = unwanted sound. One man's music is another man's noise. A DBD34 on full chat on a summers day across a field of ripening corn - lovely. The same machine revving up outside your house at 6am in the morning less so.

Attitudinal aspects of the aversiveness of noise - discuss.

When I did a personal import of the Voxan 1000 it had to have a MSVA. This included a noise test even though the silencers were 'E marked' - oh what fun I had.

Does a tree make a noise when it falls if there is nobody around to listen?
