Hi Guys,
I'm looking at what I think is a late Excalibur stator*. There are four wires coming out of it.
Green - Ignition winding.
White - Earth.
Yellow - Generator winding, this wire has a "1" ferrule on it.
Yellow- Generator winding.
I can't understand why one of the yellow wires has a "1" ferrule on it. Anyone know?

* possible also it might be a late Kanguro stator or the stators may be the same on both bikes.

A late Excalibur stator should be a Kokussan one.

Thanks I have to say that I don't know what that looks like but this one has very chunky wires on the bobbins and looks like it was wound by a child, not very neat at all. Are the Kokussan ones like that? I put the flywheel back on recently so if it says Kokussan on it I can't just look to see

Won’t be a kokusan one with a green wire. The kokusan ignition doesn’t use a self generating ignition winding like the ducati electronica ones.

Kokusan stator has 3 yellow wires only and many very neatly wound coils

Thanks Tom. You are right it has a Green wire and doesn't look like the Kokussan one in your photo. It has many less poles for a start

So it will be a "bodyless" stator, with the wire wound directly on the steel-plate-paket. It´s the strongest one with about 200W
Cannot find a better foto. This one is quite uggly. Only the ignition coil has a plastic body (this one burnt)

So probably you also have one of the strongest flywheeles (number ending in ...97 or ...98)
With this altrnator and flywheel you won´t have problems with light etc. It`s charging the battery with the motor at idle

This stator you find in the pre Kokussan 501 models, late Kanguros (X3, don´t know if also X2) maybe also 350 Customs and K2 if they don´t have Kokussan. Perhaps in all models of the Cagiva time if not Kokussan?

With more than 180 Ohms between the green cable and ground there should be no problem starting the motor.

Thanks Norbert, it looks like this one. So two questions;
- Do we know why there is a '1' ferrule on one of the yellow wires?
- Do we know the part number?

I don´t see any reason for the 1 ferrule on one of the yellow wires, there should be none.
No idea of the part number.

On a part taken from a bike that is several decades old , a random ferrule could be there for any number of reasons. If it all checks out resistance wise why not fit and test?

That's fair comment, couldn't agree more.

FYI; No idea of where it came from but the stator on my 250 2c also has a numbered yellow lead. (2 yellow, one green, one white wire).

Oh wow that looks exactly like mine. Same font, same size, identical. And on there since the day it was made.
Are your green and white wires longer than the two yellows? Can you take a photo of the last section of wiring showing the terminals of the Green, White, Yellow, Yellow all in one photo to see if its like the one I have here please?

Yes.

Green and white wire should be longer because they go to the central electic port. The yellow ones have a shorter way to de regulator. I still can´t find a reason why one of the yellow ones is marked.
