3 Moors Run 2022- event for classic singles

Post by morini_tom »

We have received the below from Russell Benney. There's usually a few Morini singles (including Russell's). It sounds like a fabulous event for pre-Lambertini era bikes.

Entires usually fill up quickly (strictly limited to 50) . Any questions please contact Russell direct.

The 3rd Three Moors Run (Giro South West)
The UK’s premier event for Classic ‘Tiddlers’ of 175cc or under, plus 250ccs up to 1972.*
Saturday 10th September – Tuesday 13th September 2022

Be part of this 500 mile ride, on specially chosen roads, exclusively for the finest small capacity machinery.
The 3rd Three Moors Run (GSW) will run through some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, starting and finishing in Somerset. All three moors; Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor, will be traversed, plus those essential ‘ticks in the boxes’ across the sights of Devon and Cornwall. The route will involve mainly ’B’ roads and little used ‘A’ routes together with many, slow narrow typical West Country lanes.
Three Hotels/Dinners are included, chosen based on character and good food rather than shiny glass and rectangles.
Two back-up vans with capacity for six bikes will be provided (thanks to Lida, Louise and Tien) to mop-up breakdowns and to carry cases/bags/tools and spares between hotels.
Daily ‘recommended route’ cards will be issued for guidance, but the route is non-prescriptive, you can vary it as you wish. One of the back–up vans will follow the recommended route only. The cost is £399 all-inclusive, (excluding drinks) based on a shared room. A small number of double and single rooms will be available.

Day 1 Saturday 10th September 2022 Start 13.00 hrs from Moxhill Farm, Bridgwater, Somerset.
Meet up on Saturday morning, park vans/trailers securely at the farm, get ready/fuel up and attend at 12.00 AM sharp for the compulsory briefing. A snack lunch will be available at the farm. On the road start at 13.00hrs, away at 1 min intervals from the farm. (Approx. 90 miles). Quantocks, Wiveliscombe, Bampton and the big climb onto Dartmoor. Overnight at the Two Bridges Hotel, Dartmoor, with overspill at the nearby Cherry Brook/Bedford Hotels.

Day 2 Sunday 11th September Start 09.00 hrs Approx. 160 miles through Devon/Cornwall countryside – recommended route along the south Devon then Cornish coasts, plus inland to Bodmin Moor and the Jamaica Inn for lunch. Overnight stay at the prestigious Falmouth Hotel on the South Cornwall coast.

Day 3 Monday 12th September Start 09.00 hrs Approx. 150 miles along the rugged north Cornish and Devon coasts, including Newquay and Boscastle before heading inland to Okehampton and then North Devon. (A Lands End – St Ives loop will be available for the ambitious). From Bideford, we head east to the superb Imperial Hotel in Barnstaple for the final dinner and stay.

Day 4 Tuesday 13th September Start 09.00 hrs Approx. 80 miles – Stiff morning ride only, Moorland canter through Devon/Somerset including Combe Martin, Simonsbath, Lynton/Lynmouth and Minehead, with the best of Exmoor, before heading back to Moxhill Farm, Bridgwater for mid-afternoon departure home. Cream Teas are available at Minehead steam railway station.

Notes;
For those travelling from far away, you are welcome to drop off on Friday afternoon, 9th September. Bikes can be left securely at the farm. Hotels and B&Bs are available locally, or floor space at the farm for the hardy. Secure Parking at Moxhill Farm for vans/trailers. Drinks and food at the local pub that evening.

If you need more information or just want to talk about the event, please don’t hesitate in contacting me.
Entries for the 2022 TMR will be limited to 50 only. Entries by email please.

Sounds a good do! If I get a suitable single in time I'm up for this. And no Tom, I won't pull a plug lead from my twins...

Russel Benney of endurance fame?

Never ceases to amaze me how deep motorcycling runs through people. It is not just a hobby. It should be prescribed on the NHS!

It sounds like an incredible event and indeed makes me want to buy a tresette just so I could join in!

I am told places fill up really quick so I wouldn’t advise on pondering participation for too long…

And yes Mike, Russell of phase 1 fame.

I agree, motorcycling should be prescribed. My wife’s a pharmacist, I’ll run it past her…

A classic GT125 twin would be nice! The sweet smell of two stroke.

Sorry, but if it's a lightweight 2 stroke twin then it can only be a Yamaha for me.

It would be nice but sadly this is a basic 4T 125 single. Few redeeming virtues to it. I do have an immaculate classic 2 stroke Suzuki moped for sale if that is more to your liking? :D

Right. The main Three Moors run is full, but I may have squeezed in to the last place on a 'taster' to be held in June. That will be on the 57 Gilera 175 transported to deepest west countryshire on a trailer behind the 'new' campervan.

We were thinking of doing the June one but it clashed with something, can't even recall what now....

Now that I have a Corsaro 125 this series of events is on my radar again. I hear Julian has entered at least one of them so in the fullness of time there may even be an MRC team, perhaps?
