Re: Oil leak on top of cases.

Here's an update on an old thread. I had a similar problem with a 350 I'd bought about 18 months ago. I finally convinced myself to remove the clutch cover with all that entails. I discovered there was what seemed to be a reused copper washer on the central top crankcase allen bolt. I fitted a new o...

Re: Can you help identify a stator for me please?

Mike, Tempting to remove the ignition winding, of course I could remove the stator entirely and fit a solar panel fairing to keep the battery charged instead - better aerodynamics and perhaps I'd even qualify for the feed-in-tariff if I do it quickly? At some point I'd be interested in exploring way...

Re: Can you help identify a stator for me please?

Thank you Steve, I've found the instructions http://www.motomoriniclub.nl/6-Volt-conversion.pdf and will have a go at following them. I'll try to remember to post my progress here. I need to decide whether to fit it instead of the 100w stator on my current bike that I've just resoldered (the rotor w...

Can you help identify a stator for me please?

I've got an old stator I bought a while back, it has 5 wires (Yellow, White, Grey, Green and Red). Of the 6 poles, the ignition coil pole is around 10 - 11mm wide, as is ONE of the 2 short alternator poles, the other 2 short ones are around 14mm wide as are the 2 tall poles. I'm guessing it's for on...

Re: stuck flywheel!

Thanks to a couple of suggestions here I managed to unstick my seemingly welded-on flywheel rotor. I'd already tried an industrial battery-powered impact gun, and the bolt in my flywheel puller was starting to bend! What worked for me in the end was a combination of using boiling water (about 2 litr...

Re: 350 500 motor conversion

They effectively replace the spark plug, the spark happens in the central chamber (which I don't consider to be truly a chamber as it's open along the length, but I can't think of a better way to describe it). So one end - the brass end has a small cap that unscrews (similar to the way some spark pl...

Re: 350 500 motor conversion

An important detail, the kokusan ignition system needs 12V to power the ignition, so a good healthy battery (and ideally the charging system working) are vital to getting them to spark and run. As a general tip I've recently bought 4 of spark gap test tools similar to these https://www.ebay.co.uk/it...

Re: 350 500 motor conversion

My 501 engined K1 framed bike currently has the more traditional clutch cover on the left side and no front mounted starter and retains the Kokusan generator and ignition with the coils mounted quite well under the tank similar to where the strada has the older coils. The wiring needs modifying for ...

Thank you for arranging the justgiving page.

Re: End of an Era

I spoke to Rob and Stuart today, the last day the shop is open for business. I've known Stuart and family since 1982, when I visited to take a friend who was so impressed by my 3 1/2 that he wanted to buy one from Stuart (which he did, VBC 745X, a bike I bought from my friend a few years later). Sin...

Re: downpipes and seat

Duncan, I hope you'll find someone able to adapt/adjust your stainless downpipes. If not, I'd be happy to pay you a contribution to them and also for the postage (I live in SE England). I do have a MIG welder and am happy to experiment with fitting them to my 3 1/2 which currently uses a battered se...

Re: 1981 K1 (Wiltshire)

Here's my suggestion:

Lower bound £500
Upper bound £1250

NLM sold a roadworthy high-mileage K2 this summer on eBay for under £940 (I was the losing bidder)
