Re: 250 2c battery
Negative earth - shouldn't have needed to check really. With a line fuse in the main positive cable. As has been said, it should run quite happily without a battery. If it won't start a quick trawl of the forum will reveal the usual ignition suspects

Re: 250 2c battery
I'll go and have a look later to confirm the polarity, but as mine has a 12v conversion (as well as a 350 engine) the battery isn't standard.

Re: Early 3 1/2 strada side panels
I would think so. I briefly had a 77 cast wheel Strada which seems from what you say to have had the early steel more rounded side panels fitted at some time. So if someone had already had the same idea as you that tends to confirm it. For my sins, I broke it (lots of work required to make it a good...

Re: Bike difficult to start
Silly me, I really meant check the output voltage from the stator when *running*. I've only ever tested the resistance when not running. Still worth comparing hot with cold. My old SWM used to eat ignition windings. I went all the way to Doune in Scotland for a hill climb to find it would only run f...

Re: Bike difficult to start
It's ignition - it's always ignition  Seriously, you can't rule out the ignition stator winding insulation breaking down when hot. Test the resistance immediately after it has stopped running if you can get it going again. Even better, hook the multimeter and watch the resistance on starting a...

Re: End of Tether
Is there a dedicated earth connection from the engine to frame or are you just relying on the engine mountings? I have a cable running from the crankcase screw that is just behind the lug for the clutch cable to a common earth point on the frame for the ignition and charging system. That's with a 35...

Ignition winding on the stator would be my guess.

Re: Detuned?
My 79 Sport was very different to my 75 Strada. Definitely a 'Sport' cam in that and it had to be revved through the gears in proper Morini fashion to make progress. The Strada had surprising torque at low revs. Some suggest that the early cast alloy intake stubs were a factor. The 87 K2 I had was f...

Re: Odyssey Battery ( PC680 ) care?
I've never damaged a voltage regulator on a bike or car by using a properly designed trickle charger. I've even resurrected a connected Westco car battery from absolute nothing (due to a car alarm) by using an ancient needle on a dial up to 8 amps charger for a few minutes to get it to the point it ...

Re: Odyssey Battery ( PC680 ) care?
I've never disconnected the battery leads on my 375/2C other than to change the battery in 30 years. I can't see a proper trickle charger being a problem and I regularly used an Optimate and now a cheap Aldi 'smart charger'.

Re: 350 frame
Ah yes, I remember seeing a Morini in the PTMCC results. We did a pretty wet Eppynt in April on the YZs. I used to ride the road legal 375/2C occasionally years ago at Loton and Prescott. Haven't been to Olivers Mount or Barbon for years but might next year as my lad is getting a bit quick (second i...

Re: Wheels, bearings and know how....or lack of it
I had to do the front wheel bearings on mine last year for the MoT and I know they had never been changed before in 30 years so was dreading it. No problem though once I had heated things up. Perhaps cast wheels are easier because there is more alloy to expand - though it needs more heat input? Anyw...

Re: Just old Battery or Drain?
As you have a multimeter, all you may need is the recommended resistances and voltages measured at the regulator/rectifier connections and the stator coils. That may be in the workshop manual if you can get hold of one - possibly on-line.
