Re: Three years later, still having problems with idle
From my experience with the Dart, now long gone, I had carb flooding problems but the floats looked and sounded OK. The problem turned out to be expansion of the nylon float with ethanol-containing fuel, such that the bond joint between the two halves of the floats caught on the side of the metal fl...

Re: Elektronik Sachse Ignition group buy
Not something that I need cos I don't have a Morini wee-vee, but I do remember the massive difference it made (and still does) when I junked the 1985 ignition system on my Cagiva Alazzurra (Ducati Pantah) for a modern Silent-Hektik kit. It was expensive because it included a new flywheel and coils, ...

Re: Sport drum brake shoes: Different diameter?
I guess it's all about quality control, for which the Italians weren't well-known! The shoe castings do appear different, but you'd think the dimensions would be the same. Apart from trying to get another set of shoes and hope for better luck, the pragmatic way would be to turn the linings down to f...

Re: They all do that Sir. Now a happy Morinist
Re your pulsing front brake: have you tried putting a dial indicator on the disc and checking whether it does actually run out of true? Is the disc mounted on bobbins or bolted solidly to the hub? If the former, the bobbins may be too tight and stopping the disc from floating. If it's a solid mount,...

Re: Brembo 'coffin' master cylinder caps
I'm trialling Plastikote Industrial Hot Paint in matt black for these caps. It claims to produce a strong non-chip coating once it has had the essential heat cure. I gave them maybe three hours at gas mark 5 (well, it was 260degrees in an electric fan oven actually: no pong at all!) and the result l...

Me again! I mentioned before that the Previous Owner was mightily impressed by how quickly the bike hit very high indicated speeds. Doubtless on a closed circuit, of course! I wondered if fitting new Avon Trail Riders might affect things due to perhaps having a longer circumference, so I fitt...

Re: Sidestand worries
Good info! I suspect, as I ordered the cast bracket more or less as soon as they were available that the factory realised the error of their ways with not fitting the shoulder bolt. What year is your bike? Bear in mind that as you've not used a countersunk bolt, the clamping area will be different,...

Re: Sidestand worries
I did need to shorten the through-bolt I fitted, and resort to a plain locking nut with Loctite, so as to clear the springs. Here, I hope I can attach a pic of the old bolt, and you can see how much it had come undone by the bruising on the thread. (Images sent via imgb much too big...) All should b...

Re: Sidestand worries
Hi Tom, Interesting observations! My OEM bolt does have a plain shank to it but, as I see it, the bolt should pull up tight on the bearing sleeve (steel on mine) and the whole unit then pivots in the carrier bracket. The bolt should not be load-bearing therefore, just provide a clamping force. Yes, ...

Re: Sidestand worries
Just another thought: that sidestand hangs off the motor so it may not be a type/fixing restricted to the Scrambler or GP. Time to take a look at it, I'd say!

Brembo 'coffin' master cylinder caps
These caps are made from a ?zinc alloy that seems to corrode very easily when the paint peels off. Has anyone found a source of supply of new ones, preferably CNC billet alloy ones anodised for protection, though that's a long shot? Possibly the same size M/Cs are used on other bikes? Stripping and ...

What we used to call a propstand of course. I thought it odd that there was so much flop in the sidestand on my Scrambler, so checked it out today. Just as well I did! The pivot bolt has a countersunk head which seemed to be protruding quite a bit, but it has a torx socket larger than I have...

Re: What have I lost?
Tom's Innotec 1500 stuff looks to be in a different league altogether, and since it appears to be non-setting, I find it difficult to understand how it could stand gas-pressure. The ads say it is primarily a lubricant, not unlike Loctite C5-A Anti-Seize Copper that resists temperatures up to a more-...
