Re: 1980 500W first time project introduction

First undersize plain main bearings are available from Mdina. I'm leaning away from the roller timing side bearing conversion unless it's a pre-plain bearing 350, or a tuned engine. The two FPAC (four point angular contact) bearings need to have their ID precision ground in the as hard condition. An...

Re: Replacement oil cooler hoses

It's often worth trying Pirtek. They have many depots and mobile vans and I've found them very helpful in the past.

I recommended them to a friend and he took some hoses to be copied. They ended up making new AVRO Shackleton bomber hoses as a sponsorship deal.

Re: 375 liner enough meat?

Never had that problem with Threebond 1215. It's pretty strong, but not so strong that pulling things apart becomes a problem.

Re: 5th gear whine

Fitting a Freccia rear suspension unit seems to help. They used a straight rate spring, rather than the dual rate of the Dart. You can get a complete YSS unit from Brook Suspension for a good price. They are to order, so it will take a few weeks.

Re: Hidden bolts

OK, I had to go and check and it appears Morini may indeed have changed their mind about which way the bolts go through. One of the dry side recesses on the 500 Sei cases in my picture has a hex recess, but the other one doesn't. The clear hex recesses are on the wet side. The drawings on the parts ...

Re: Hidden bolts

The socket head goes on the "wet" side with a copper washer under it and the nut goes in a hexagonal recess on the "dry" side.

Late engines use a rubber seal between the case halves (same seal as the oil pump feed) for the uppermost internal bolt.

Re: 375 liner enough meat?

The original sealant as listed in the "Blue Book" is Arexons Motosil D. It is available in the UK, you may find it stocked by competition Yoyo specialists (it's used to fil Yoyos to damp vibrations apparently). Much eaier to find is Theebond 1215, as listed in the Cagiva era engine manual....

Re: Newbie question

The "Blue Book" workshop manual lists Castrol RS full synthetic as an alternative to GTX, but with an extended service interval.

All the late handbooks list Agip Sint 2000, which is a 10w40 semi.

Re: Dating by frame and engine numbers

If you bought a project Morini from someone and they didn't have the V5C and couldn't remember the registration, you'd have to apply to the DVLA for a replacement. Without the reg number, they won't issue a V5C anf you'd have to register from scratch. NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) was inten...

Re: Throttle cable woes

Venhill are the reason I started making my own cables. They did some years ago post on the forum to ask for feedback on the problems. I sent a detailed reply, but they completely failed to respond in any way. Even when they're the right length, they use too large an inner diameter for their throttle...

Unless you made a typo, you had the wrong plugs fitted.
