Re: Jetting issue?
Hello Matt, I don't know where you get the information that a 79 sport has 98 main jet. That might be the case for USA Emissions spec (California) but these have a sealed airbox and in later versions a different airbox, please don't try it even if it fixes something its just wrong. The "star&q...

Re: Does anything strip paint off 3 1/2 Strada engine cases
carb cleaner used to contain Toluene, now its seems its xylene, which isn't as good, but Xylene used to be in Hammerite thinners and now it isn't, so I use carb cleaner to thin/clean Hammerite paints. I buy Dichloromethane for dissolving epoxy resins/glues, for which it is allowed, from a jewelery s...

Re: Strada top yoke and rear sets.
With respect to top yoke My friend runs a Norton/Matchless hybrid in Pre-65 scrambles, these commonly have Marzocchi 35mm, or Ceriani forks. His top yokes look likely to work for you. Everything seems to be interchangeable. You just need to confirm the top yoke centres and stem bore size. This site ...

Re: oil dipstick position
Spot on John, on any old vehicle never assume the accuracy of the dip stick, its the sort of thing that gets mixed up in boxes of parts or lost and replaced with the wrong one and yes there are different dipsticks for morinis. I have glass 1 litre measuring cylinder.
Re: Oil leak
Hi Paul, To be fair it sounds like as an experienced Morinist you have done or had done pretty much everything. I wonder if the fuel leaking past the valve was just caused by disturbed crud which has now been flushed out. I mentioned checking that the fuel filters are in place, i once found a spare ...
Re: Oil leak
Hi Paul, With the floats jamming sometimes you can see like witness marks on the float bowl, at the front or sides. Do you have white or brown type hollow floats or the solid brown floats. The problem is most apparent with the white floats. For sure its a good idea to change the needles and needle v...

Re: Ignition timing issues
Hi Barry, Its hard to be sure, but that does look like a genuine black pickup. The device in the choc block is another diode, this is in the green lead to the switch and is used to prevent a fault in the switch from getting 12V onto the ignition circuit, if 12V gets onto the green wire it kills the ...
Re: Oil leak
Hi Paul, I have had jammed floats on two Morinis in the last two years, which was never a problem before. This seems to occur only if the bike is left standing. The fault is it seems caused by excess swelling at the seam where there is flashing on the white or brown floats that are the hollow type c...

Re: Ignition timing issues
Hi Barry, Hope it will be sorted soon, you are right about the coils all windings breakdown over time, and the spark will be weak and even retard. I didn't think the black pick up was compatible with the red transducers, and the advance then retard problem is the problem you get when the diode is mi...

Re: Ignition timing issues
Hi Barry, The fault you describe can also be a fault with the pickup , so please check whether the fault follows the transducer (CDI) box if you swap them over, or whether it stays on the front cylinder. If it follows the transducer then I would advise to buy new ones in a pair, because any second h...

Re: Reg / Rec help needed again
Thanks for the quick reply Mark! West county Windings decided to rewrite the Stator with one yellow and one red lead for the AC charging group of 5 coils, no idea why. There is no green or white because the ignition coil was left off the Stator as the bike has been converted to a Sasche system with...

Re: Strada will not start
Hi Dave, It sounds like you have done all the tests you need to do, 160 ohms with everything disconnected most likely to indicate a faulty winding, given the history of it getting progressively harder to start and the misfire. Once you have the stator removed you can check the measurement again. Mark

Re: Reg / Rec help needed again
Hi, Its certainly odd that none of the regulators is functional. Apologies in advance for some basics - hope no offence but Are you absolutely sure the regulator earth is connected, I have fixed various issues with restored machines where there is too much paint and there is no good earth connection...

Re: Reg / Rec help needed again
I have tried two Ducati Energia reg/rec units, both stamped 343142, and have terminals G G R+B C, I am connecting the two yellow stator wires to G and G and the brown to fuse box to C. Body of reg/rec ground to frame. I read online that the terminals marked R+B are not wired to the regulator circui...
