Re: Bogging down/ rough running problem

To G&A-Many thanks- I have checked and I don't think my cambelt has more than 6mm when pushed inwards as shown in the manual. I also don't think any play on top pulley or magneto flywheel. Many thanks AGAIN ! Matt No worries. Assume you meant pickup rotor not flywheel? As Mark said, the jitter ...

Re: Bogging down/ rough running problem

You can often remove excessive "wobble" by fitting a new cam belt. If the belt is too slack it creates wobble at the pickups. Sometimes the rotor of the pickup unit is to blame, it's only pressed together and bits of it can get wobbly. Also the top pulley can sometimes be the source of wob...

It was the cutthroat pricing that caused the problems.

Re: Difficult 3rd to 4th gear change

Some resistance in the mechanism that only does those gears would be the thing for those symptoms. e.g something impeding one of the dog units from sliding on it's shaft or impeding the selector forks moving along the slots in the selector drum. Or similar for the pawls. So that's gunge, wear, burrs...

Re: Fastenings, fixings and 0 rings/fibre washer sizes

Originally 12mm hex key, but after a lot of use/abuse occasionally a bigger size fits better. One of mine is 12mm the other is likely to round out if I use a 12 so I use something bigger that actually fits that one properly, a bit of empathy goes a long way with old machinery :-)

Re: Flywheel puller

I would guess the central bolt is about M12 in the pukka version, with a hardened ball tip often, I guess to reduce friction or reduce damage maybe to the end of the shaft. Certainly don't just leave the end of the bolt the irregular shape it probably is as sold off the shelf. Also if you have acces...

Re: Flywheel puller

The thread in the flywheel is definitely metric. I can't remember what but I'm guessing it's M25x1mm. Careful, some people try old britbike pullers with imperial threads that "seem to fit" but are actually not the same profile or size.

Yes indeed, many thanks for the participation from the nine who set off from Tyndrum, and Alan for getting as close as circumstances permitted.
Anyone we didn't see, hope you didn't suffer any unscheduled breakdowns or get-offs.
Stay safe and enjoy the Morinis.

Re: Bogging down/ rough running problem

There are club members who would rebuild pickup units for you at a reasonable cost. Mostly they are rebuildable, not always.

Re: Scotland - Glen Coe meet September 2022

Hi All,
Just to say this meet-up is getting near, also it's definitely happening. If you are interested in coming and being part of "Team Morini" on the day you certainly won't be on your own.

If you let the bike tick over and put a strobe on the timing marks while it is doing so, and the timing dances around the mark, that could be the things I mentioned above. Good luck whatever it turns out to be.

Headlight Upgrades - Blast from the past

Not news to anyone who has had a Morini since the '70s but back in the day, people did all sorts of things to ditch the original CEV 197 headlight with it's ?35/35W? Tungsten bayonet bulb. Just one of the popular choices was fitting a 6.5 inch headlight glass/reflector from a 1978 CB250N Super Dream...
