Re: Alternator windings

Thanks for that Paul. Makes more sense now. If I get no charge, then it is rewind to same spec as electric start 350/500 and use of a 'normal' regulator.

Alternator windings

Hi All, Not often I get stumped for an answer, but does anyone out there know what the actual benefit is of having the "centre tapped" stator instead of a conventionally wound, series connected stator is? Also is there any benefit in getting it rewound into a normal one? Secondly, does cen...

Re: 3 1/2 speedo drive

Hi, I'm sure that the different 'gearing' for km vs miles is in the speedo head. The only time it would ever not be is if you have one of those aftermarket 'speedo mph-kmh converters' which slow the cable rotation down to fool clocks calibrated in km's into showing miles. The parts book only shows 1...

Re: Morini Riders Club website

Hi Tom, Is there a way of joining the club from the website? When I click the link about membership, it appears I need a username and password to get in. Forum one doesn't work. One would assume that if you were already a member, you wouldn't need to find out what membership offers? Also, this is pr...

Re: Plastic Instrument Surrounds

Hi, Unless you are really wanting/doing a 100% concours, then If you still have the original rings, drill a dia 2.5mm hole approx 6mm deep where the snap off peg(s) used to be and use an M3x8 screw/washer to retain the rings. No need to tap a thread, the screw will do it. Looks way neater and is eas...

Re: More barrel questions.

Hi Andy, Something you might not have considered (and I have no idea how Morini cranks would cope with it, nor where you would get it done in Spain) is to get your crank built up by metal spraying and have the big end journal reground to give a slightly shorter stroke - something as little as 0.5mm ...

You say that you need a new seat - Is it just the cover or is the seatpan rusted through? If the former, then I can concur with Buzby. Leightons did the seat on my 350 and did a superb job. Highly recommended. If it is because of rust and you are stumped for a replacement, then you could try what I ...

Valve bridge cracking

Hi, My 350 did this some years ago, and eventually the inlet valve seat worked loose and started pounding into the head. Took a while to go though. Listen carefully to tappet noise - if it goes quiet and doesn't start or idle well, it may well be that the valve seat is moving and you have lost the t...

Try searching for model makers supplies - there are loads of places catering for the back garden shed "steam engine" makers, who will sell you the small amounts of bar/tube/sheet required for this past time so might well be able to supply the tube you need? As for seamless, if you can only...

Although you should be able to get an oiltight seal with the gasket dry, providing both mating faces are perfect, I've always used a sealant as well. I've always found hylomar good in the past.

OK, hopefully this will make sense. The spindle is inserted from the right hand side and passes through the speedo drive, then the wheel, a top-hat spacer (smaller diameter towards bearing) and then through the fork leg. The spindle nut and large washer behind it is then tightened so that the wheel ...

Brake lever

Pistonslap is virtually there - The brake levers for Yamaha RD250/350LC's go straight in. Just make sure that you get the adjuster that goes between the lever and master cylinder piston as it has a different thread pitch.

320mm disc

My brake upgrade was done by purchasing a caliper and disc from a Kawasaki ZX-10 from a breakers. I then made a hub-disc carrier from HE30 aluminium billet, (not quite so easy unless you work in/have good access to machine tools) and used replacement disc "bobbins" to fix disc to hub. I re...
