Re: gearing
Hi, While acceleration in top is nothing to write home about, it should be a usable gear. I had a similar problem a few years ago, and it turned out to be that the rear cylinder ignition was not advancing. To check this, you will need to add a "PMS2" mark on the flywheel - measure distance...

Re: A question of forks
There is no setting as far as I know. Have always assumed that it acted as a one way valve such as let's air out when forks compress, but stops air going back in. In 45 years ownership, I've never even thought of 'why' until your post, but I suppose it might have a technical benefit of keeping oil i...

Re: Front fork oil check
Hi, Can I put in a 'plug' for a 'fork oil seal removing tool? The alloy at the slider tops is rather thin and can easily break/chip if you aren't very careful. I use one like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174486346138?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338990947...

Re: oil dipstick position
Hi Fully in is the way I've always done it. Top mark on my bikes corresponds to measured 3.0L oil put in after an oil change. Mine are 1978 bikes with the overstamped bit in the riders handbook saying 3 litres instead of 2.5, so it was many years later (probably after 20 years!) that I saw that the ...

Re: Noisy clutch?
Should you take the spring retaining screws out, when you reassemble, add some copperslip/neverseez onto the threads. Don't overtighten them, whatever you do or they may never unscrew again! If anything, it is better to leave then 1/4 -1/2 turn from fully home. They do stay put, honest!

Re: Noisy clutch?
It is normal. 350 and 500's run dry clutches so are much noisier than a comparable Japanese bike. Try listening to a dry clutch Ducati or a 1970's Yamaha TZ if you still think it is loud. The clutch is noisier when disengaged as the plates have room to move around. As long as a/ it doesnt slip, and ...

Re: Need a new ignition switch
Hi,
I think you will need a 6 wire one. From memory the switch connects the side lights for normal riding as well as parking.
Have known to be wrong though.

Re: Hard to start
Try cleaning all connections on the green wire between generator and transducers and try it. Leave it off the ignition switch as an extra measure. I will say 9v sounds very low, so am wondering if your rotor needs remagnetising? Other things to check: Resistor plug caps? Resistor plugs? Either/both ...

Re: Spanner for metal intake manifolds
Hi Tom, Have found the c-spanner I used (I think it is made of zinc plated cheese!) and the very useful bit - my 'restrainer' for the alloy inlet stub used to make sure the stub doesn't rotate when tightening the castellated nut. Free except for Thursday evening this week, so let me know when you ne...

Re: Strada top yoke and rear sets.
Hi, Sorry but don't have what you are looking for, but may I suggest you fit either one or the other, not both? You might well find that just fitting the rearsets will make the bike more enjoyable. My Sport has been this way since the early '80's and is still comfortable for really long rides (as lo...

Re: Help! Spring behind flywheel M22.01.37
Hi Marco, Whilst my bikes are assembled, I do know that the spring you need is a very close fit on the crank, and is made with square section wire. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you with either a spring or the dimensions of it. If no one else is able to help, I feel encouraged to hurry...

Re: Front wheel bearings
Hi, As has been said, sealed bearings are fine. What you have to be careful with is removing the speedo drive side bearing. Corrosion can build up in the wheel outside of the bearing, and when you drift the bearing out, the speedo drive gear cracks. These are either not available or very difficult t...
