Re: Memories

He's right, of course! Not that I'd suggest a BSA Bantam was as much fun as you could get on two wheels, but I think there is a variable sweet-spot in bike power that relates to power. My beloved Cagiva Gran Canyon has a quoted 65bhp from its soft-tuned 900 Ducati lump but it's a joy to ride. I have...

Re: Idiot lights

Apart from a predilection for LED headlights which has got me into hot water here before, a favourite use of LEDs is for the indicator warning light. Indicators left on is a major problem in bike safety to my mind, but the warning lights are usually feeble and almost always out of sight when looking...

Re: Idiot lights

Replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs in idiot lights can be tricky. The extra brightness is generally welcome but LEDs can glow dimly if there is a tiny current that reaches them despite the function they indicate being inoperative. That has certainly happened for me on a neutral light and a fuel-...

Re: ECU remap

I just wish it wasn't winter with mud and derision all over the roads around here and then I could remind myself of the engine characteristics of my Scrambler. My memory (and the post I wrote at the time) tells me I thought the motor was the best-behaved of any of the powerful units I've experienced...

Re: X-cape Official Photo

Why the enthusiasm for a clone off-roader with very little Morini DNA beside the name on the side? I guess I'm not really one of the faithful... Nick Good question. I dunno? Not sure if I'm one of the faithful either? Or worse still an unbeliever! I've had Morinis a long time but It's not been mono...

Re: Gran passo at STV motorcycles

Shortness of leg? Yeh, I know about that! Then again, if the reflexes are good, it's not too much of a problem unless the bike really is silly-tall. Of course, picking something like that off the floor on your own is not something to attempt unless you have the build of a gorilla or very good techni...

Re: Gran passo at STV motorcycles

My bike guru Carl Harrison put me right off the Benelli triples because he reckoned the electrics are a nightmare. Plus, of course, they have one cylinder too many for my liking. I test-rode a Triumph 1050 and was thoroughly disappointed with it's multi-cylinder feel, among other things. It was such...

Re: Gran passo at STV motorcycles

It looks like a lot of bike for not very much money. The price is the same as I spent on the Scrambler, and those appear and disappear at the speed of, well, a Morini 1200!

Re: Gran passo at STV motorcycles

It's certainly been on ebay for a long time when I would have expected it to be snapped up quickly. So what was the issue with the front cylinder?

Re: Starter Motor Brushes

David, Connections continue to be made: '72degrees' of Morini fame turns out to be a Gilera enthusiast like me, and I admit to being a serial Cagiva collector with both sizes of Raptor among several other models! Do you partake of the Raptor Chapter UK forum by any chance? A very friendly batch of o...

Re: Starter Motor Brushes

David, Just a follow-up on the brushes I got. I must have had the idea that members of the Alazzurra group were going to beat a path to my door as I bought 4 sets of 4 brushes! Anyway, I doubt they of any use to you, as they are 17.2mm long, 9.89mm wide and 6.87mm thick, WoodAuto code SBR 5523. The ...

Re: Starter Motor Brushes

Hi David,

You could try Woodauto in Huddersfield. I got spare brushes for the (Ducati) starter motor in my '85 Cagiva Alazzurra from them in 2013, which I'll try and dig out to measure the size. The firm is still going, www.woodauto.com or sales@woodauto.co.uk.

Cheers,

Re: Starter Motor Brushes

Will you shim the depth to get a good fit, 6 vs 7mm? It'll be very bad if the brushes can tilt and/or shake in the boxes.

Re: Brembo 'coffin' master cylinder caps

A follow-up to my experiment with the Plastikote paint: I've now used it on twin brake calipers for my '76 Suzuki GT550 and it looks very good and has so far resisted minor hydraulic fluid leaks around the bleed valves with no sign of bubbling-up. Definitely a useful resource. The Scrambler remains ...
