No, but the big ends were so worn that the rod 'eyes' had gone oval. Good used ones are probably OK if checked for roundness.

Re: 428 front sprocket

Ah, false memory. It was a 350 one. The old 250 sprockets went to the tip. :( Would have been a standard 16T one anyway.

Re: Gearbox cluster compatibility

Well the used bushes from Mdina Italia have arrived and are noticeably less sloppy than mine, but having only stripped one engine to this degree I'm not sure how much play is acceptable. Still rather 'wobbly' to my feel. Gears all selected and stayed in OK but there was a lot of noise from the area ...

Thanks for the translation, your translation is way better than the official English translation (i have a copy of this) from the 80s :D :D :D
Seconded! I only need the 250 V book for everything else but the engine but it's jolly useful.

Re: 428 front sprocket

I'll have a look in my shed. Might be one but I suspect it got thrown out in the house move.

Gear bushes.

I had the last two new 350 con rods North Leicester Motorcycles had apparently.

Re: Gearbox cluster compatibility

Pete, if you want to come and look I have a 350 gear cluster or two spare. I have also swapped later Kanguro clusters into my 76 Sport without any issues. I didn't even check to see what the differences were. I'm in South Leicestershire near Lutterworth. Thanks Steve. It so happens I see someone ha...

Re: Gearbox cluster compatibility

Possibly, thanks. More research needed. Staring at the Ebay photos doesn't show the subtle differences. The 4 and 4A versions in the parts list definitely have different part numbers for some gears, but perhaps so long as the shafts are the same spacing and length the whole cluster might be intercha...

Gearbox cluster compatibility

Finally getting round to rebuilding one 350 engine and addressing the worn gear bushes. Used ones being sourced from Mdina (asked for the most unworn they have!) but may try to get new ones machined up by cloning those. That might be needed to allow for the one that seems rather loose in its gear (1...

Well it did seize !

Those who followed my 'Forgotten Error' tale of the speed hill climb special may recall that on its first competitive outing at Loton Park I thought it seized. Then later I decided (as it ran again after rolling back down to the paddock) that the 'brick wall' effect was just massively rich main jets...

Re: Swing arm failure

The bikes need a recall, like the Milanos. Won't happen, though. I hope somebody isn't seriously hurt before somebody takes this seriously. Glad you are ok. Looks like it depends on how the Italian enforcement of EU product safety directives is done. Complicated by change in ownership of the compan...

Re: Do I have an ignition problem

SWF, though I see it says Morini 500. https://swf-ignitionsystems.nl/product/morini/ I have the business end of one somewhere but haven't got round to fitting it (a case of "if it works don't fix it"). Really must see if I can find it. Some others too I think though Powerdynamo have discon...

Re: Do I have an ignition problem

I have been in contact with West country windings and they say the specification they use is the same for all Morini source coils and they have never had any returns before. I am now at a complete loss what to do next I have been all over the bloody bike with my multi meter cleaning wiring connecti...

Re: Do I have an ignition problem

Might be better to try to find a "known good" stator. Not easy, as those that have them on the shelf in a shed are probably hanging on to them. Just possible I have one I don't need, will search and test. Thanks I but I would like to eliminate all possible faults before I try another stat...
