Re: Throttle cable woes

Full marks for improvisation 3pjohn, and thanks for reminding me of the dreaded melting nipples!

Re: Throttle cable woes

A rotary cut-off disc in a Dremel is a good way to cut the very hard metal in cable casings, and also inners too, but tape them before you cut! When I've used stainless inner, I've hard-soldered it to brass nipples successfully, without apparent weakening of the cable. This is only for throttle cabl...

Re: Throttle cable woes

You might do better to make your own. I did that on my Cagiva Alazzurra, eliminating several of the adjusters which allow the cable casings to tilt and alter the synchronisation. You can buy nylon-lined casing and stainless inners as used on pedal cycle gears. For me, it made a world of difference i...

Re: New Rear Caliper Brake Pistons

Glad to hear Powerhouse came up with the goods! They certainly try hard.

Re: historic tax

The DVLA told me my '75 Suzuki GT550 triple was Historic: I didn't apply to them!

Re: First (?) Italian Road Test

Steve, Can't you get a nice man with a JCB and some concrete to scoop you out a horizontal platform just for bikes at the bottom of your slope? That's what I've got, and it just means carefully backing the bikes out of the garage on an arc until I get to the pad and can thence ride straight out onto...

Re: Petrol Leak At Breather

It's not just overfilling with cold fuel that then sits over a hot engine, expands and finds its way down the overflow? Been there, done that. Might it even be possible for it to get into syphon mode?

Re: Auxiliary Lights

If you do go for LED headlight bulbs, be sure to make a considered selection. Any that have little or no heat-sink or fan will be low-powered and not worth bothering with. Don't be conned by those that have 4 rows of emitters and claim 360 degree illumination, because they come nowhere near the desi...

Re: 501 Excalibur on ebay

I had to look that one up, and must say it was the ugliest bike of it's type I've ever seen! The Ducati Indiana was quite tasty in comparison.

Re: Auxiliary Lights

I guess it depends on whether you just want to be more visible, or be able to pick out elephants in the road at night! I've fitted LED bulbs to all my bikes (it is now fully legal to do this as per recent changes in MOT regs), and added neat eagle-eye LED optics on some of them. One of the most stan...

Re: Front brake calliper pistons (stainless steel)

As implied in Patrick's original post, I suspect that the resilience of the seals permits the pistons to pressure the pads, and the rebound of the seals pulls the pistons back just enough for pad clearance, once all has bedded in. Those S/S pistons do look very poor. I bought some from Powerhouse an...

Re: Back in the saddle

Mine's a Scrambler, and awaiting me getting back in the saddle after some work on my back. As are all the other bikes too. I can't wait to get out on two wheels again, especially to sample the contrast of 1200ccs of Morini compared with 250cc of 1957 Guzzi Airone, bought a couple of weeks ago!

Re: Back in the saddle

Good luck with the BSD diagnostic. They were very kind when I took the ST4 over there for a quick look once I'd bought it years ago. I looked at the pics of your last GP, still amazingly unable to find a buyer, and finally decided the longer front fender had been added post-factory. A good idea in m...

Re: Capless idiot light bulb size

Hurrah! The folks on the GuzziRiders site have been discussing this today and I thought I'd check to see if you-all knew about it. Great news, and a blow for common sense, I think. It still leaves me with two post '86 cars with LED-converted lights, but I'm thinking maybe a quick switch back to halo...

Re: Rear Brake Caliper Pistons

Hi Jonny, Glad to help. I don't have a 'classic' Morini but keep an eye on the older bikes and chip in if I think there's something I can add. Powerhouse bent over backwards to sort a problem I had with the very common Brembo four-pot calipers on my Cagiva Raptor 1K. In their view, Brembo might not ...
