Re: Ring Nut Question ?

I gave this guy the dimensions and he made a perfect fitting castle head socket (1/2" drive) within 2 days. Mine was only £10 incl P&P; I suppose that was because it was the 'devoplment' version. Highly recommended. Only went here because NLM had no stock. I think they may also get their ca...

Re: Carburettor Woes (or something else?) - Help

My Sport is now sporty again - hurray! However the fix was a long struggle & headache inducing A new transducer has given the rear cylinder its proper advance characteristics. But that still didn't cure the carb adjustment problem. So after re-reading many times, EVgurus comments and paras 3.4 &...

Re: Starter problems 3.5 Strada 1978

Here are photos of my starter motor dismantled, but after cleaning! It was really a mess because of oil leaks. The brushes must be in good condition (renewed if need be) and the commutator really clean, especially the slots between the copper lands. With a 14Ah battery (pinched from a BMW K1300S - y...

Re: Carburettor Woes (or something else?) - Help

Thks to everyone for their input. I've just spent the morning with multimeter, carb balancing and strobe light attached. I think EVguru is right. I seem to have acquired an ignition/timing gremlin. I've rechecked wiring connectors/earths - but all are good. Both cylinders seem to have very good spar...

Carburettor Woes (or something else?) - Help

Not a new problem but I'm really struggling to fix it - what am I missing? My 1982 Sport (standard in every respect) has developed a horrible hesitation on opening the throttle, cold or hot. From ~3700rpm to the red line it pulls like a train and goes like a Sport should. Returning from a good run, ...

Re-chroming Service

Just had some parts re-chromed and am VERY pleased with the results, the timescale and especially the price.

Goto http://www.qualitychrome.co.uk/index.php

Send them a foto of the parts with a 12" ruler for reference and you will get it back with prices shown for each item.

Re: End of Tether

On both my Strada & Sport the coils measure about 270ohms, quite high and look as tho they have been rewound with fine wire. Both bikes start really well, but I am a bit anal when it comes to checking / setting timing, tappets & balancing the carbs with vac gauges. You can check the strength...

Re: Wheels, bearings and know how....or lack of it

If you want to be sure not to risk splitting the speedo drive as you knock the bearing out that side, either heat the wheel as EVGuru suggests or simply use a dremel to gently grind the inside of the hub underneath where the speedo drive sits. By gently, I mean you need to remove less than 0.5mm eve...

Re: Starter motor relay

I think you will be very unlucky if you have to do as much as you suggest. All I had to do was clean the black gunge from the commutator, brushes, brush carrier; top up starter motor gearbox oil and adjust chain. Nothing needed replacing. I did very gently roughen up the clutch linings (careful not ...

Re: Starter motor relay

Sounds like it could be the starter motor / mechanism that is the problem. If the relay (starter solenoid) clicks and the electrical system (battery) dies, then the starter motor is likely stalled / drawing excessive current. To prove this disconnect cable between relay & starter. Solution - rem...

Re: Timing Belt supplier

My Strada has a NLM supplied Megadyne belt - 'A' fitment, cost over £35 incl P&P. A standard (1 size fits all?) HTC/Goodyear belt is fitted to my Sport - 'B' fitment, cost ~£10 incl P&P! At a ~£20+ saving I'm thinking I can change belts annually rather than every couple of years. Belts seem ...
