Re: . . Excalibur Impressions . .

I'd keep it as it is and enjoy! :D I'd love an Excalibur. The bars would be easy to change without affecting its 'patina.' They are sort of a dated styling design and in doing so make a statement. For the very reasons you purchased the bike they are becoming less common. Soon you will have a collect...

Re: Tyre recommendations please

It is very hard to go past Bridgestone BT45's. The rear is a dual compound tyre. Fronts tend to cup a bit at half life but they still stick. Avon Road riders are old technology. Not many tyres are used for front and rear any more with just a reversal of direction. Tyres are very subjective but you w...

Re: rubber manifolds MM32 and MM38

Were the rubber inlets you purchased the ones from Alex? Might be an idea to be clear on this as your statement is a bit ambiguous as to the source of the manifolds that failed. I purchased a set and they arrived without issue. I haven't fitted them yet. I've even used manifolds made out of radiator...

Re: Plain or Roller Bearing?

I'm a big beliver in KISS, keep it simple stupid. I've rebuilt big diesels, like MTU 8V392's. That means that each piston has a displacement of 3.92 litres. They use shell bearings on the big ends with compression ratios that would blow the sides out of a Morini barrel. I've also read that some Mori...

Re: Tyres

I don't like the Avons. Not a scratch on the BT45's in the wet. One compound and reversed from front to rear. As Paul has aluded to they are wider than the BT45's of the same description. BT45 rear is dual compound. How many miles a year do you do? If not many then get the softest and grippiest tyre...

I use Gates belts from; http://www.beelineengineering.com/ they do mail order.
Not my understanding.

124 = 12.4" length, L = profile, square teeth one sided at appropriate 3/8 spacing, 075 = 0.75" width.

Re: Current status

You can experience surging if the mixture is too rich too. If raising the needle doesn't help then try the other way. Nothing there looks too far out except the main jet may be a touch small. You are running a 264 Atomiser with an X22 (not that different from an X1) Maybe that is your restriction. E...

Re: Jetting and valve set up

No problems Steve. I'm happy to talk 500's any time or place. Its not as though we are interupting anybody else. My 500 Seiv has the 6 speed box too. I have a 40 tooth rear. I certainly wouldn't want to try and pull up a steep hill, fully loaded with a pillion but it is OK for what it is. I do...

Re: Jetting and valve set up

Thanks swtuggle. Interesting. My bike wouldn't idle for long with an idle jet and slide like yours. It would foul up and just not want to play. The 28's instead of the 26's would allow for some of that though. 115 mains! Interesting too. X22 needle, I had to look it up as I'm not familiar with it. V...

Re: spark plug caps

If the resistor is OK its hard to think why it wouldn't work. Not important. You can also get nil resistor caps, so to my knowledge they are either 0, 1k or 5k nohms. You shouldn't need resistor plugs as has been mentioned. Just be aware that fancy plugs like platinums have resistance in them too. A...

Re: Jetting and valve set up

Hi Mike, In every other bike I have dealt with the valve gap for exhaust is always a bit more than for the inlet due to the extra heat it endures. The inlet doesn't get hot exhaust gasses flowing past the base of the stem. I'm commenting as that the exhaust valve didn't come close to sealing, the gu...

Jetting and valve set up

I'm just wondering what others have found to work in their 500. I'm still not 100% on mine but I've just had the rear head work done and it is running much better. It came far too rich with the below settings: PHBH 26 Main F135 R 130 Idle 45 Atomiser 262T Needle X1-4 and very worn Starting 55 but wh...

Re: Touring advice (on a 3 1/2 Sport) please

I´ve avoided posting to this as I have a habit of opening a cn of worms but I´m currently stuck in wet Poland on a trip so I thought I would. The following is fro my experience, yours may differ. Firstly, there is no way of carrying luggage on standard bike that won´t wear the paint. You will need s...

Re: Curious Electrics

I'm guessing the 3.5 is the same as the 500. There is a direct feed from the positive battery terminal to the fuse box that has the main fuse on it. Make sure all the connections are good. Have the key oj and give it all a jiggle and look for the ignition light to come on. Mine occassionally does th...
