Re: 500 electronic ignition

Sounds reasonable. I changed as I was having problems and decided the stator need a rewind. Looking at the cost (if I could find anybody to do it anyway) I thought I might as well buy a new system as usually with the Law of Sod once one things breaks other components will follow. Anyway, if I am hap...

Re: 500 electronic ignition

Some great information , one thing to consider is to fit a relay to negate the old wiring and use the old coil wire to trigger the relay then you will get the full 12V feed coil_diagram.jpg This is my next project after I have road tested the bike. I only have 0.1 volts drop from battery to coils a...

Re: 500 electronic ignition

I've just fitted an SWF ignition on my 250 2C and I'm beyond happy with it! Easy to fit, easy to adjust and the bike is transformed, pulling much better throughout the rev range. All the original wiring is still on the bike, if I wanted to go back, but I can't think of any reason I would. The kit c...

Re: 500 electronic ignition

Rick, I have just installed an SWF system on a Strada. I managed to wire the +12 volts via the kill switch, using the original wiring in case I decide to fit the original system. It is a simple kit. A bit of a fiddle to fit the rotor, but easy to set the timing. Once fitted, the bike started on firs...

Re: And still, I remain confused...

Fuel remaining at reserve is not a good indicator of range. How much can be used? The tank may not run dry before the fuel stops flowing. Also, do you really want to drain the bottom of the tank, it is probably full of crud which will block the filters on the taps and the carbs and some will find it...

Re: Lighting circuit problem

What is the wattage of the headlight? The alternator chucks out about 140W at high revs. Brake light and two indicators are +/- 60 Watts. Add in your headlight and tail light and what is left has to charge the battery. Run at slower speeds, the output drops. My BMW has a voltage of 14volts with no l...

The technique:

Ignition on
Fuel on
Chokes up and
Press button. Electric kick-start is best.

Re: Lighting circuit problem

If you read the blue book there is a section on fault finding the charging circuit. I would say that 12.5 volts across the battery at 5k rpm is a bit low. Your regulator may be faulty.

You may want to check the earthing points, too.

Re: Best 31/2 cam for all-round flexibility?

This is good info.

A Sport piston with a Strada cam is a good option.

I know the 501 nikisil barrels do not fit an500 crankcase, but do the 350 nikisil barrels fit an earlier 350 crankcase?

Re: Best 31/2 cam for all-round flexibility?

Sport cam was used from the first sports up until the later K series bikes where they moved to the M cam. There should be an S Stamped in the cam between the middle lobes, not so helpful if the engine is together, but easy to check what cam you have by measuring with a timing disc. None of the Mori...

Re: Reinstating the electric starter part 2

I would not think Morini could afford a different casing.

Has the linkage been changed, do you have rear sets?

Of course, I could be wrong, not unknown!
