Re: Plugs
Good advice, unfortunately many have disappeared whether that be due to retirement or in many cases passed on. Back in the day you would visit your local bike shop and buy new old stock marked up with a pre- decimal price. Usually the shops were very small with every inch of floor, wall and ceiling ...
Re: Plugs
Thanks for the advice guys, I have managed to secure a Uk supplier for the plug caps, NGK SDO1F, at a reasonable price. Once I have replaced the leads and caps we will see if there is an improvement. I have previously had the tank cleaned and relined, carbs sonically cleaned, new float needles etc s...
Re: Plugs
Just a continuation of this post, update you might say. With the help of a fellow member I have been continuing to work through what has become a bit of a garage queen. My issues with the front pot came down to a loose connection where the HT lead pushes into the transducer. Obviously continual remo...

Re: Electronic fuel tap rubber membranes
Does anyone have a breakdown of the electronic fuel tap internals.
I have checked the rubber membrane only to find I haven’t got one.

Re: October Stafford
You clearly felt that the club failed you when you visited the club stand at the weekend. Whilst I was not there at the weekend I can assure you from past experience that the club goes out of their way to welcome all visitors to the stand. Yes there is, as with any club, a small minority that go the...
Re: Oil leak
Thanks Ming/Mark for your suggestions, wise words indeed. Mark - you are right to suggest that many Morini’s have been messed with, unusually this 500, on the outside at least, looks like it has just left the showroom, probably that was my error as the V5 shows nine previous owners, so plenty of sco...
Re: Oil leak
Further update, I have tested both the needle valves and the needles and no leaks to report. I had previously replaced all the o rings/gaskets/washers so I was fairly sure the needle valves would be seated ok. I have also cleaned both carbs, i don’t have sonic cleaner but both carbs look serviceable...
Re: Oil leak
Thanks Mike/Mark for your comments. It is certainly a fact that Morini’s run best when they are used and certainly with my previous bikes I have tended to use them 12 months of the year. Obviously during the winter months this has only been when weather allowed but nonetheless this did work particul...
Re: Oil leak
All good advice, I have checked the fuel tap and off is definitely off. Certainly when the bike has been in my ownership I have always turned off the fuel when parked. When I purchased the bike it had been stored for 3 years, hence the decision to have the bike checked over by a well known Morini sp...
Re: Oil leak
After further investigation the problems are beginning to emerge. After draining the sump it is clear that all is not well. In total nearly 5 litres came out of the sump. I checked the invoice and I was charged for 2 1/2 litres as you would expect so I find it difficult to assume that the sump was o...

Re: Sooty spark plugs
Welcome to the forum. You should find plenty of advice here. Worth checking previous posts as many problems are common to living with 40 year old motorcycles. Whilst this advice is worthwhile your bike will be unique to some extent, for example jet sizes vary greatly, mine has a 118 main jet when th...
Re: Oil leak
Dip stick is now a good fit after replacing the O rings. I have checked the blue book and the oil level should be checked with the dip stick in position. What does this mean? I assume fully pushed in? Surprisingly measuring in this way the oil is above the maximum, indeed well over the maximum. Next...
Re: Oil leak
That is one of the possible issues. Never had a problem before with my other Morini’s but then again this particularly bike is throwing up plenty of left field issues. I will order the necessary o rings and oil seals and look to replace the breather pipe. This is a good bike, I just need to work thr...
Re: Oil leak
Thanks Mark, I will order the replacement O rings from Simply Bearing just to make sure, they look passed their sell by date, very crusty. At the same time I will order in the necessary oil seals, you can never have enough spares! Hopefully I will locate the source of the problem, once I had a chanc...
