Re: 500 electronic ignition

It'll be a while yet, I am recovering from a tendon operation and can't get my foot on the foot peg, although things are improving. Steve, I agree with the rotor problem. It would be better to use the existing key on the cam and slot the circuit board. The ease of getting the timing correct (set pm...

Re: 500 electronic ignition

That's a shame. Is the ignition still on the bike, or did you change to something else? I've not double checked mine with the strobe yet, but it does at last tick over again and when I took it out on the motorway yesterday, it's found another 10 mph from somewhere and will rev pretty much to the re...

Re: new to morini

Welcome to the mysterious world of Morini! As Norbert says-all this depends on the year of your bike, what Luigi on the production line had to hand, what has been changed by well-meaning owners in the intervening decades plus what the broke, wore out or otherwise bodged up. A lot of owners will pers...

Re: 500 electronic ignition

Glad to hear you are having success with the SWF system. I had high hopes for it but struggled to get the timing right. The only adjustment was by rotating the trigger rotor on the camshaft. I think it would have been better if the back plate had adjustment slots like the original parts. Anne did se...

Re: Excalibur jetting

Thanks for the replies. The problem I had was that the set up shown on the Dutch website and other places were either for VHB carbs or PHBL carbs fitted to 500's; that's good for idle & main jets but no help for needle or emulsion tube sizes. I have now found a chart on the forum that suggest t...

Re: Excalibur jetting

With a different less quiet exhaust and the airbox opened up I would expect just the main jet would need raising. A 350 Strada/Sport would have a main jet of 110/112/115 so that would probably be as large as needed. It may only need 95 or 100. You'll have to experiment I'm afraid as the exhaust requ...

Re: And still, I remain confused...

Fuel remaining at reserve is not a good indicator of range. How much can be used? The tank may not run dry before the fuel stops flowing. Also, do you really want to drain the bottom of the tank, it is probably full of crud which will block the filters on the taps and the carbs and some will find i...

Re: And still, I remain confused...

You'll only find out if you do as you say and actually measure it. The amount left when you hit reserve depends on the height of the stand pipe inside the main tap. By now the chances are the tap has been replaced (ie your mechanical tap) and who knows what is there now. I sometimes have cut that pi...

Julian-you mean Alldens, yes? If so his name is Dennis and he's an old colleague of Ivan Appletons' so you can name drop both Ivan and me plus Tom as well.

Re: Valentini Replica

Hi Tom and Julian, I'm taking my van and a bike to Stafford so happy to transport exhaust parts if you like. Also while we are on the subject of replica pipes I'd like to recommend Alldens over in Lincolnshire for the job. He made my Camel system and his work is top notch. I know there are other peo...

Re: Reinstating the electric starter

That red+ cable can go either end of the main starter lead. The factory placed it at the solenoid so that when removing /replacing the battery there is only one lead to remember. Makes it a bit neater too, in my opinion. As for the solenoid, I've just replaced one on my 500. It's a Durite item rated...

Re: Nlm ignition system

Yes, the pick up does look a bit shakey. To be fair it was fine if you could set it up properly. I was lucky in that Alex set it up for me when I bought it, he had a home made but effective rig to test run the ignition systems, standard or otherwise. Like I said the CDI part works fine still today a...

Re: Nlm ignition system

I would say yes it is. The pick up part of the set is the only complicated bit to get right. It needs very close tolerance clearance that is almost impossible to measure. I had the full set on my 350 Sport for a long time and it was never a moments trouble. Then I swapped it to my 500 Camel and I ne...

For anyone wanting a good viable project this is well worth a look. I would normally be straight round there. As I've been doing that a little too much I will have to miss out on this one.
