Re: Reinstating the electric starter
That red+ cable can go either end of the main starter lead. The factory placed it at the solenoid so that when removing /replacing the battery there is only one lead to remember. Makes it a bit neater too, in my opinion. As for the solenoid, I've just replaced one on my 500. It's a Durite item rated...

Re: Nlm ignition system
Yes, the pick up does look a bit shakey. To be fair it was fine if you could set it up properly. I was lucky in that Alex set it up for me when I bought it, he had a home made but effective rig to test run the ignition systems, standard or otherwise. Like I said the CDI part works fine still today a...

Re: Nlm ignition system
I would say yes it is. The pick up part of the set is the only complicated bit to get right. It needs very close tolerance clearance that is almost impossible to measure. I had the full set on my 350 Sport for a long time and it was never a moments trouble. Then I swapped it to my 500 Camel and I ne...

Re: Kanguro x3 for sale as parts bike or restore for the road
For anyone wanting a good viable project this is well worth a look. I would normally be straight round there. As I've been doing that a little too much I will have to miss out on this one.

Re: Kanguro x3 parts bike or restore for the road
This bike must be worth a look. Keep pushing with the advert, they make a decent lightweight adventure bike so there must be an owner for it somewhere? I would be interested if I didn't have too many already! Definitely looks too good to break for spares, as a UK bike from new (I think) and most lik...

Re: Oil pump seal variation in sizes/mdina part different?
From what you say it sounds a possibility to use it again. As long as it is still rubbery, not cut or split etc. When you come to fit the case you should be able to just feel that rubber being compressed, only by a tiny amount. If the gasket faces are good you could omit the gasket and use 3 Bond or...

Re: Oil pump seal variation in sizes/mdina part different?
The black straight tube type seals is all that has been available for some time now. I too prefer the original and have re-used them many times. The rubber seems pretty resilient and so long as it isn't cut, nicked or otherwise damaged/degraded they can go back in. I haven't heard of any problems wi...

Re: Spares needed: clutch plates, cam belt
The year is irrelevant here but the drive pulley on the camshaft should have a stamping facing you, on the outer edge once you remove the flywheel cover. As others have said, M'dina is the place to go for your new spares now (plus a lot of used stock too) they have a good website but still ring them...

Warwickshire Section this Saturday!
As last month we are holding a winter section meet at Welford this Saturday lunchtime. It's a nice pub and they do nice food too in case you need warming up after riding there! Venue is: The Wharf Inn, Welford, NN66JQ and we'll be there from around midday. Plenty of parking for bikes and cars. We do...

Re: Starter motor clutch shoes
You shouldn't need to be particularly brutal-just clean like you would for brakes. If the shoes are not biting into the drum it could be a few things. The Oomph of the battery (sorry for the tech jargon) the efficiency of the electric motor, the efficiency of the gearbox on the starter motor, the we...

Re: This Saturday-Lunch in The midlands
And so it came to pass. Three MRC members did meet at the Wharf Inn, Welford. It is now decreed that this shall be our winter daytime meeting place. Try to keep lunchtime (1pm) the 2nd Saturday of the month free for a nice ride out and an informal social gathering. Until the evenings are less dark a...

This Saturday-Lunch in The midlands
It is short notice I know-for that I apologise. I democratically, all by myself decided to try a lunchtime weekend meet for the winter months, for our Warwickshire section. I picked the Wharf Inn at Welford. NN6 6JQ. It's very close to the A14 and there are plenty of nice non-motorway/main road rout...

Re: left hand gearchange conversions
As you've seen here the Camel and Kanguro are Left footers as standard. They have a crossover tube welded into the frame, close to where the centre stand pivot tube is. As far as I know there are no ready made kits for sale but there were some done either by the factory for various markets/models. T...
