Re: Kick Start replacement...aftermarket?
Thanks for the tips Ian! Aermacchi 350 levers aren't that hard to find...Ben Hi, all kick starts fitted to Camels can fail, the alloy levers break like in your photo and both types of steel kick start can snap at the pivot pin on the mounting boss. Welding the break on alloy lever will not last long...

Re: Kick Start replacement...aftermarket?
Thanks for the replies everyone! This appears to be the original kick unit. From what I can tell, from discoloration in the seam, is that there was a prior stress crack. My friends leg finally snapped it (British singles kicker instinct). The guy I got the Camel from appears to have a spare kicker. ...

Kick Start replacement...aftermarket?
Hello everyone, The kickstart on my 81' Camel snapped off this past weekend. Is there a strong aftermarket replacement? Or should I peruse the usual second hand avenues? Thanks, Ben

81' Camel, maiden off road voyage disaster
Hello everyone! Despite having clutch issues, incorrect tires and a weak spark, I decided to take my Camel for a bit of the off road with a few friends. The bike glided nicely over the sand, until the truly deep bits. Then the clutch issues came into play. After laying it over and a few hard starts ...

Re: Bike still lurching forward with clutch lever pulled in.
Wow..... Thank you everyone... a bit to look into. I will double check the clutch tomorrow. I will measure the arm distance (15mm?) and springs. After watching Paul Compton's clutch video, I realized I may have put the slender metal plate in the wrong position. This bike is suffering from a few mala...

Bike still lurching forward with clutch lever pulled in....
Hello everyone... This is my first dry clutch set up, so I imagine something is misadjusted. My Camel is still lurching forward whilst the clutch lever is engaged. I have added new fiber plates and deglazed the metal plates. When I replaced the clutch plate cover, I tightened down the spring loaded ...

Re: Right hand shift conversion, 81' Camel
Thanks for the tips Steve! Ben Have never heard of this kit for a Camel, only for the road bikes? I wanted right foot change for my Camel and discovered that the gear linkage from a 500W road model (or equivalent 350 I suppose) fits perfectly. Depending on what you do for footrests you may not even ...

Re: Right hand shift conversion, 81' Camel
Thanks John.... pulled the linkage and it is indeed a sloppy mess. New ends on the way...Ben I am happy enough with a right hand gear lever on my Sport and a left hand one on the Coguaro, the riding positions are so different I do not have a problem. Well except for yesterday when on the Sport. On t...

Right hand shift conversion, 81' Camel
Hello everyone,
I have heard that there is a conversion for turning my camel back to right hand shift? I have a US market left hand shift Camel with the weird cross linkage. Any tips appreciated! Ben

Hybrid 6/12v Camel MK1, Runs no batt?
Hello everyone,
I just realized that my 1981, MK1 Camel, runs without a battery. Also, the headlight and taillight work. What is the 6V 2ah battery used for then? I am quite happy that the battery isn't required, as this will help avoid a tow in the desert! Ben
