Re: Piston Rings
The only question that I think I can answer for you is the Nikasil/cast iron cylinder question. I am pretty sure that the cylinders would have been/would be cast iron, not Nikasil. I have never heard of Morinis using Nikasil bores back then. (I know Moto Guzzi used Nikasil, or perhaps it was a chrom...

Re: 1980 Strada Fork Oil info please
Before undoing the fork caps I would suggest loosening the upper triple clamp bolts a bit. (Make sure you tighten the clamp bolts after you reinstall the fork caps ...)

Re: 1980 500w newbie project part 2 - the engine
park3164: you are making good progress with your Morini. The Morini 500 has a bore and stroke of mm 69 x 64; the Pantah 500 is mm 78 x 58, more over square than the Morini (over square meaning that the bore is greater than the stroke). The Pantah would rev higher, which helps to make more power and ...

Re: 1974 Strada colour
The original plastic badges have two pins. A small clip fits in each indentation and the badge pin is held by the clip. The indentations on your tank are probably covered by paint/filler; that area of the tank can get rusty from moisture being trapped behind the badge. If you look into the tank thro...

Re: Added a Strada to the project list
I have a blue 75 Strada frame number A/2*07481*.
77 Stradas had a single disc front/wire wheel.

The paint on that blue/white tank looks quite good.

Re: Added a Strada to the project list
The 1976 brochure shows Sport and Strada with rear-hinged filler caps. I have a tank from a 76 Strada (large black-painted panel on tank sides) which is the same.

Re: Added a Strada to the project list
That's a pretty good start. Does the tank have a white stripe/flash (75-ish) or a black panel (76)?

Lafranconi, dual seam, for 350: Total length is 605 mm. Rear opening is 26 mm diameter. These measurements would, I imagine, be the same as the reproduction Lafranconis available now. I have one Lafranconi dual seam which would be an earlier version and it is the same length as above but the opening...

I had a look at your 'new' 125 motor on your web site. I am sure you will sort it out.

Re: 500 Valve collets
Many years ago, new valves I bought for my 500 rebuild had the small groove. There must have been matching collets and I don't recall needing a new or different version of the valve spring retainer. Before I reassembled the motor I did get an engineer to modify at least one new valve so that it matc...

Re: Rear Cylinder Clearance
Tilting the engine forward, pivoting it on the rear lower mounting bolt? Not saying it works and I haven't done it, but I think I have seen it mentioned before ... ??? If it has to come out of the frame, protect/cover the new paint to the max.

Re: Tank Badge Removal
Years ago I removed the tank badges from a 1975 model without breaking them but I can't pretend to remember exactly how I did it. Maybe I used fishing line to get the badges out a bit at first. Maybe I just got lucky. If you can get the badges out a little bit you might be able to get a thin/small s...

Re: Help to identify a 500 tank.
I can't be 100% sure, but it looks like a 500 frame. If the frame's original colour was red, it's probably a frame from about 1980-81 with straight frame tubes at the front. As Hendre suggests, check the frame number/stamping.
