Re: Fitting longer shocks

Hi Robin, Whilst I don't have a 500, I have Hagons on 3 out of 4 of my bikes including my Sport. Really like them as they seem to really suit the Morini and last well. I can suggest that you don't go longer, simply because you might find that the chain will start eating into the swinging arm at the ...

Re: Morini Museum

Sadly no Morini, but the Guzzi museum in Mandello de Lario is really worth it. Only open Mon -Fri, and closed for typical Italian sized lunch breaks. Even the Mrs who isn't in to bikes liked it.
Regards,
George.

Re: another new Sport owner 76 or 77?

Hi, George again. I'm have Tarozzi rearsets, albeit I modified mine donkeys years ago to have fold up footrests and brake tip. If you don't, then the kickstart WILL hit the brake lever and snap the brake pedal in half unless you use a kickstart displacer. Kickstart displacers used to be sold by NLM,...

Re: another new Sport owner 76 or 77?

Hi, What a lovely original bike you have bought. As to 'I'm definitely going to remove the "American" style high bars and replace them with clip-ons' may I suggest that you buy a rearset kit at the same time? And a Kick-start spacer too. As standard the footrests were just bearable, wherea...

Re: 1980 Strada Fork Oil info please

Hu As well as the blue book, get a copy of the parts book. Helps you to see how things go together, if anything is missing, and what parts are named/ needed when you need to get something. George. PS: re oil choice, everybody is different. I'm a fan of slightly heavier weight oils. I use Silkolene 2...

Re: Twin Disc Master Cylinder

Hi, I too have a '78 Sport. To me a single disc is fine unless you aren't a lightweight or really ride hard. Only time I really felt I needed a better front brake was when in the alps loaded with camping gear. I do have a larger disc/different caliper on mine - Kawasaki - but only went that route as...

Considering the wheels on it, that price is decent.

Re: New 1978 Strada owner

Hi Mick, 'Then, when it rains, clean it...' Shouldn't that say 'Then, when it rains, sit and watch the chrome on the indicator stems and exhaust downpipes wash away' ? Well it did on my '78 sport at 1 month old! Being serious though, you could be right with the casing - a gentle polish on the centre...

Re: New 1978 Strada owner

Welcome, and you certainly lucked in there. As for the clutch, being a '78 it would have come with the brass clutch thrust bearing, and it is probably still in there. This made for a very grabby clutch. Get hold of the later nylon thrust bearing and shim the backlash and it should transform the clut...

Re: Moto Morini stickers online in the UK

I've used them as well for other bikes and can also vouch for their service. Should anyone want either slightly different or unique, then I can also recommend 'Isaydingdong'. I wanted some 'Norton' tank badge/stickers of a certain size not listed by anyone and they did what I needed really quickly a...

Re: Fork seal orientation

Hi, With the 2 per leg set up, both go in springs inside/down. Make sure that there is plenty of oil between the seals when refitting the stanchion so that the outer seal doesn't run dry. I have a set of later forks that use 344210 fork seals that are designed to slide as opposed to seal a rotating ...

Hi, For what it's worth, the stands are easily bent near the pivot. Might seem a bit 'brute force and ignorance, but with the bike upright and side stand down, stand on it and bend it down a bit. Mine let's me know it is time to straighten it when the rearset brake pedal hits it. After 43 years it s...

Rev counter

Sorry, I don't have one, but there was an article written a while ago about repairing the original with help from someone who does Ferrari tacho's. Worth a search on here. Also see http://www.dinoplex.org/tachoconversion for some guidance? Failing that, there are some 'Smiths' replica units (look si...

Re: 520 Chain Conversion info

Hi again. I would stick to 14 front 38 rear if I were you. The 350 isn't exactly a powerhouse, and 6th is a good cruising ratio. 6000rpm = 80mph ono, giving a good balance of smooth running, good economy and still have enough omph for (modest) roll on acceleration. Much taller (eg 37T) rear, let alo...

Re: Oil leak

Hi Joe, Once you have given it a thorough clean, wash the affected area with brake cleaner and dry off. Liberally coat the joints/area suspected of leaking with talcum powder and once running you will soon be able to see where the oil is coming from by the nice black area on the white talc. Having e...
