Re: Crankshaft timing side oil seal

The wear in the plainbearing is unlikely to induce a leak in the seal. It could be the allen screws are loose or one missing or not got the washer under the head. The shaft seals are usually made of nitrile or neopreen and and either are suitable for this application. The seal could have simply not ...

Re: Rear sprocket

Checked today, sorry for the delay, catching up on the vegitable planting after the 4"of snow on Monday. I have a 42-6 alloy, a 41-5 alloy and a 42-5 steel all are 5/8 x 3/8 but the thickness canbe reduce to 5/16 if that is what you are using. The hole in the sprocket is what determines whether...

Re: Oil filter conundrum !

The coarse gause filters do not filter out the fine micro particles that is produced with the continual wearing away of the rubbing parts of the engine that are deposited in the crank pin which acts as a centrifugal purifier and eventually clogs one or both of the oil feeds to the big ends, usually ...

Re: 500 Sport Crankshaft dimensions

I know where you can get some from as SKF told me they are not interested in making or modifying any bearings to fit this application.

Re: Oil filter conundrum !

I have fitted external full flow oil filters to all the morinis I have had after beingasked to rebuild a 500 with a one knackered big end. Owing to the lack of filtration the holes in the big end feeds were blocked, the big end journals being hollow and acting a centrifugal sludge traps such that wh...

Re: Single Seat on 500?

I have one fitted to my bike. You will have to make up attachment brackets for the rear lugs to sit in and sit on the screw knobs. The dowel rods/pins locate into another bracket. The brackets were then zinc plated.

Re: Replacing Veglia Clocks With Modern Replicas

You can get Indian replicas, but you need to match the clocks to the wheel size and reduction ratio and same with the tacho. This chap repaired and made up new instruments from original Smiths parts. He just wanted to know what the max speed and revs were, the wheel diameter and ratios and I collect...

Re: Replacing Veglia Clocks With Modern Replicas

Having fitted new Vaglias to my 350/507 I then had Smiths chronometrics clocks made up, as that was what the Italian works teams fitted to their grand prix bikes, they are so much the part of the intended look of the bike and accurate.

Re: Help to identify a 500 tank.

Strange that. I had a black 5 speed 500 of that vintage but the frame was kinked. I then acquired a later 6 speed with a kinked frame, that had painted mudguards. I made and still have molds of all the plastic bits including the seat body work.

Re: Help to identify a 500 tank.

The 500 frame is wider where the return tubes are welded to the top tubes. Also the 350 tool tray will fall through the frame, the 500 is wider and has a flat rear section.
