Re: Clatter
My camel 501 engine is apart with a rumbling plain bearing . I've decided to replace like for like . Splitting cases can be a wrestling match , made worse if you have to heat the RH case to accommodate or release a roller bearing conversion . The plain bearing is an interference fit. Also it's quiet...

Re: Cam Belts
I thought the old ball bearing trick might prove divisive! With no key, I ran my bike with no locating device at all for months. The tapers were true and the flywheel solid, we're not in Briggs & Stratton territory here.. I only fitted something , and the 3mm ball bearing came to hand, because o...

Heres a better picture.
A clear witness mark of around 3mm?
I can't measure it as it's off being ground !

Looks OK to me.
Here's the end of a 501 crank...not very clear I'm afraid.
Paper gasket between the cases?

Re: New to me Strada
I had the same problem with the crankshaft on my 501 camel rebuild. The woodruff key was almost sheared flat. The woodruff key is only there to locate the flywheel on the crankshaft, it doesn't hold it on. The tapered faces of the crankshaft and flywheel, properly lapped and torqued, fix the flywhee...

Re: Camel/Kanguro headlight+shroud
Steve, I have an x3 camel nacelle with no damage to the outside. However , the anchor points for the headlamp screws have snapped and been poorly repaired with fibreglass resin.. Some work required ! The good news is it's almost free, just the postage to pay for from Catalunya . Good Perspex screens...

Re: Kanguro tank bolts
X3 tank bolts are tricky.. M8 bolt (10mm in length) with a M6 (10mm in length) riding piggy back on top of the 13mm hex....
M8 to secure the tank , M6 to secure the flimsy and fragile plastic shrouding..
I doubt if NLM have them...you could try
Making them shouldn't be difficult.

Choke plungers. Winkle out the rubbers and reverse them.

Camel 501 restoration
Restoration almost complete.. the usual black museum of previous bodges...some lethal in their ingenuity, must try not to add a few of my own. Here's a busy place . where exhaust balance pipe, starter relay cables , engine earth strap , breather pipe, rear brake line all meet in a space smaller than...

Hello Nik! it's been a long time since that Cadwell, 2002 was it? Still flapping round in that yellow set of overalls ?( I seem to remember ).. I hope to pick up where we left off when I return to the uk...won't be long now, I'm restoring an 88 Camel 501 so you should run rings round me as usual! I ...

Re: routing of cable - starter to relay
Just reviving this post to confirm that the short cable from starter relay goes to the starter motor,(this is on a 501 camel) long cable from relay goes to battery+ and a third independent earthing cable goes from battery negative post to a bolt on engine case. The thing that puzzles me are the two ...

Alli Arriba Motorboy! I 'm a big fan of your record missions. just looking at the post concerning downpipe lengths and exhaust pipes , I see you're wearing inappropriate record breaking footwear ! ( snake proof Marlboro man cowboy boots ) take a cue from the velodrome cyclists and the time trialers ...
